Since moving to university last September, I've become fascinated with the different regional accents in the UK. I moved 103 miles (doesn't sound far for the USA but consider the fact that England is smaller than Texas, I moved about 1/4 of the country away). Obviously in other English speaking countries there are accents too, so here are some questions about the accents on ISH. Hopefully people read and answer. I've included links to accent tags on youtube

Where were you born? - Birmingham (http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/maps/uktowns.gif), England

What accent do you have? - Mild Birmingham (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mq3077CNBgs) accent

How long does it take for people from other places to recognise your accent? - Some people notice sooner than others. Some notice straight away, others can't place it

Do you like your accent/your hometown accent - its ok, people from other parts of England mistake the Birmingham accent with the accent of a nearby area called the Black Country. Gives us a bad reputation

What is your favourite accent other than your own? - Glasgow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHfllwAUdIM), Lancashire (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw7wCnnLT4g),

What is your least favourite accent other than your own? - Black Country (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vb4MknMqwmA), Welsh (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MRVtWSOD5s),New Zealand (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgWnQVfY3mE)

What is your favourite accent on a member of the opposite sex? - Irish (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4zBULlOgVI), Scouse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Niylrj2QJKA) (Liverpool), Received Pronunciation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvmepbQAN8o), Yorkshire (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhkZgNkmk0A) and Scottish (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vgBZPdWL3U), Texas (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSYWF34HPXk)

What is your least favourite accent on a member of the opposite sex? - Black Country, New Zealand

born in south america, grew up in philadelphia after age seven. i have a midwestern accent for english, peruvian for castellano, and likely belgian for french.

but i like to imitate as many different accents as i can from all over the world. favorite is probably thick irish and a quasi-pirate accent that i made up. russian and indian also tickle me pretty good.

least favorite is probably nasally new yorker and valley girl-speak.

I know it's a shitty response, but I don't think I have much of an accent or dialect. At least not one of the traditional ones.

We definitely don't have "Southern" accents here in South Florida.

The more north you go in Florida, the more southern it is. If that makes any sense :lol

Idk how to explain my accent, mixture of Bosnian and Ghetto accent I guess.

OP, you should support Aston Villa/Birmingham/Wolves/WBA, not Arsenal.

I don't appreciate the sarcasm :lol

I'm from a place called Barking, but it's in Essex, it's so bad we even have a TV show after it, except it's 100x less glamourous than the show makes it out to be.

Thats all you need to know.

Michigan has a very slight accent that some people will point out on a occasion much to my confusion. After looking them up I guess fall into most of them, except that yooper bullshit or the far SW Chicago hybrid. For the most part I speak your generalized newscaster american.

only thing missing is what prevented you from stabbing yourself in the eye with a rusty nail. ahem.
