View Full Version : Players who are "held back" from their full potential

Who are the current players in the league who are probably better than their stats would suggest, but who are held back by their teammates/coach/the organization/etc. from showing their full potential? (Don't include injury ala Grant Hill or Derrick Rose, those are obvious any boring).

- Kewahi Leondard - Pop must know this guy is a sure fire 22-25/10/5 if he had the chance to be, but that's not how the Spurs work. Would love to see his true potential later.

- Chris Bosh - He is in his prime now, would probably be putting up 23-26/12 on a team where he was the first option

Why would Bosh's rebound increase?

Kawhi is good but stop overrating him. 25/10/5 is Lebron's level. :oldlol:

Why would Bosh's rebound increase?

Because he wouldn't be relegated to spot up three point shooter on any other team in the league.

1 or 2 more offensive rebounds and 5ish defensive that lebron actively steals from him

Westbrook needs his own team IMO.

If Leonard was better, he'd be scary on the Spurs. Of all the teams to pick, the Spurs would be the last team that would hold somebody back.

I also feel Bosh is so underrated that he gets overrated to the point where people think he would easily be the best PF in the league if he didn't play with LeBron. His struggles are his own struggles.

Surrounded by 3 and D guys and rebounders/shot blockers.

I'm a Spurs fan. Kawhi Leonard has been my favourite Spur besides TD for some time now. But he will never, ever be a 25/10/5 player, let alone right now. Right now, without Tony, Tim or Manu, he's a 17/8/2 player.

I swear people watch the Spurs for two or three games during a Playoff run and they make some very silly assumptions.

kawhi could easily average 22/10/4/2/1 with an offense geared towards his strengths..

if spurs dont win it all this year kawhi should SERIOUSLY CONSIDER leaving town and going somewhere that will make him a franchise player.. this coming from a huge spurs fan

If he was on another team, Westbrook would be in the conversation with Melo, George, etc for best player outside of LeBron/Durant.

Bosh would be a 25/10-12 player if he wasn't on the Heat.

Leonard is being held back by the Spurs system but some of you are getting a bit too excited, he would most likely be a 18-19/10 guy.

Westbrook would have the perfect situation on Rose's place on the Bulls. His numbers would be about the same (maybe a few more ast and few more points) but the Bulls he would be more respected.
And I feel their defense would improve cause he's a better defender.

I think there are few different types of players, and when you say being "held back" from their full potential, I think of the latter

- players who would be just as efficient while getting more touches.

So I think that's more so of an attempts per game issue than anything else

essentially, there are players who Can't be a volume scorer because of the drop in efficiency. but also players whose efficiency won't go up even when given fewer touches or looking for better opportunity.

I guess you can say players are being "held back" because of their lack of touches. But players are only held back when his shot attempt is the best shot attempt possible and not getting the opportunities.

Definitely Bosh. We don't even need to speculate on this one. We all saw what he did in Toronto before he even hit his prime. Now he is a better defender and much better shooter with more range. We also saw how he played when Lebron and/or Wade was out. He's gotten much more clutch too. Definitely not afraid of the moment.

I don't agree with those who say WB. He has the ball in his hands most the time and takes as many shots as he likes. What do you want him to do on a different team, play with two balls and take 30 shots a game? His IQ is what's holding him back, not his team.

KD, on the other hand, is being held back by WB and their incompetent coach.

I would like to know how you think somebody can held back from rebounding? LOL.

Is Spoelstra not calling enough Chris Bosh - Rebound plays?

Spo only runs two rebound plays a game against Indiana, but against other teams he runs 5.

This inconsistent play calling is costing Chris Bosh his rebounds.

We should learn from the Timberwolves - they run so many rebounding plays for K-Love and he is not even as good as Bosh

Put him in some PnR rebounding and Triangle Boarding and you get 15 boards per game easily:applause:
