View Full Version : The Pacers have SOME very bitter a-hole fans...

Shaquille O'Neal

Took my 7 year old son to game 1 yesterday - we were both rocking our Lebron James / Heat shirts. Ran into some very cool Pacer fans that suggested we go down to a lower level (102) to get better pictures. It ended up being the "drunk / bitter a-hole" section.
I'm 40, and in no way was doing anything other than watching the game with my son. As soon as we walked up I was getting yelled at, heckled, boo'd, etc. ...told "get out of here" and "no I'm serious you have to get out of here" and other choice words. Which as a grown man I somewhat expect considering our shirts - but my son got very upset and walked back up the stairs. He told me he was very scared and wanted to leave. It was so bad multiple concession people came over and told them to knock it off or they'd be thrown out. After he walked up the steps, I yelled back "Are you guys proud of yourselves? He's SEVEN years old!!!!!"
We ended up leaving at the end of the 3rd quarter as the MORONS were just getting drunker and drunker.
What a classless display and a real shame as it was my son's first ever NBA game. Don't get me wrong, some fans were really cool, but to see a group of dudes all well over 35 years old (these weren't younger college guys) act like that - very classless.

Let me get this straight... You've been to ISH and expect IRL fans to be classy? :oldlol:

It's like going to a lion's den expecting the lion not to attack you. :oldlol:

I don't feel that sorry for you. Don't wear opposing team colors to a game, especially a playoff game.

I don't care who you want to win the game. Go and watch and be glad you got to be there. Wearing Heat shit in Indiana (or Boston/Spur shit in LA, or Clipper shit in Oakland) is just asking for a bad time.

So him, a 40 year old man with his 7 year
Old son can't wear the team they support without people getting ridiculous with them and the consensus here is "I don't feel bad for you. You asked for it?"

No, people should be able to rock whatever they want at games without fear of f*cking bodily harm.

OP you should have gotten those bums thrown out. This isn't how normal grown folks act.

I'm not sure why a 40 year old would be surprised at this kind of reaction. Its playoff basketball, the crowd are gonna be drunk, parochial and intense.

I'm sure EVERY team has fans like this...Absolutely no doubt. It's one of the saddest aspects of fanaticism - it often yields folks who are out of touch with reality when it comes to the teams they follow and support. No team or city is immune.

It's a tough situation for me. On one hand, I believe you are correct - the sad truth is wearing an opponent's shirt may often end up as a rough experience. But on the other hand, it shouldn't end up as a rough experience. As such, I feel the onus is on fans not being rude and classless instead of being on a man and his son politely supporting their own favorite team themselves.

I'll say, it's at least encouraging to hear some Indiana employees attempted to intervene. Otherwise, I get the light-hearted ribbing that can come with wearing a rival's colors. I've witnessed that a few times and each side tends to have a good laugh. But when one side becomes seriously upset at the presence of a man and his son simply because they prefer another team instead, that's saddening and bizarre. Instead of accepting such behavior, I think Indiana's employees had the right idea in stomping it out.

OK, but there should be spaces designated for those that do. Blood runs high, but creating these spaces minimize the risk of conflict.

People are going to wear their gear when they're going to the most important games of the year, simple as that.

Absolutely agree 100%. Seems like the moron ratio at the Pacers game lines up pretty well with ISH. There's a reason I'm not posting any shots of my sweet son at the game.

Because you don't have one and are making this up?

I just hope you realize that it's partially on you too. You brought the kid there. You wore Heat shirts. You knew there'd be thousands of Pacers fans, some drunk. You presumably know how insane sports fans are, especially Indiana basketball fans.

If you want your kids to enjoy bran, wear your jerseys to a Bucks or Hawks game. You brought that upon your kids by wearing them to a big rivals home court. You are very much entitled to wear whatever you want, but just saying it could have been avoided. Don't cry about something you could have avoided. You are at fault. Ever heard of rivalries? Red Sox and Yankees, Indiana and Miami, these are rivals that have fans that hate the other team. Deal with it. Or go to a Heat game in Miami. Not saying it's OK to pick on kids or make them cry, but you have to accept some of the blame.

i have no simpathy for OP. i think its disgusting how people who HAVE an nba team choose to bandwaggon another citys team

i grew up without an nba franchise within a 5 hour drive... and for my first 12 years there wasnt one within an 8 hour drive... it was hard enough as it is trying to watch games on canadian sh*t stations..

i became a fan of the lakers midway through the 90's because it was the only team that appealed to me

i became a kobe fan and started watching basketball religiously. it was my only option

for most people in the states they take it for granted.. having a team or multiple teams in their state. its not fair.. i have to make a long as trip and stay in a hotel and pay nearly a thousand dollars just to see a game. and thats if i can convince anyone to go with me. my parents are cheap and nobody i know likes basketball as much as i do... its a country full of hockey fans ... and their 2nd favorite sport is nfl

the only times i go to see a game was when the lakers play in toronto ( ONCE A YEAR )

if ottawa ever got an nba team i would go to every game and cheer them on like no other team... that would be a dream of mine..

it makes me sick when i hear stuff like OP's story... well boo freakin hoo

you know what i did when i went to see my lakers in toronto... i left my jersey at home. and cheered for the lakers without making a scene about it

why on earth would i have to make a spectacle of myself or make a scene by egging on home town fans with visitor jerseys...

that was your first mistake

but your biggest one was fallowing a piece of sh*t player like lebron and wearing a shirt that says MIAMI on it just cause thats the team he currently plays for

when lebron leaves i wouldnt be surprised if both you and your brainwashed son got that new teams jersey.

have son respect for yourself and appreciate how lucky you are to be in the general vicinity of a sport you love.

I don't care who you want to win the game. Go and watch and be glad you got to be there. Wearing Heat shit in Indiana (or Boston/Spur shit in LA, or Clipper shit in Oakland) is just asking for a bad time.

OP didn't say if he was from Indiana, in which case yeah he shouldn't be repping the Heat. That doesn't mean that the idiot hicks were in the right of course.

If he is from South Florida and traveled away to support the team, then I respect that. And if he is, my advice would be to show his son the banners hanging from the rafters at the American Airlines Arena. "This is what they want, and will never have. This is what fuels their raging inferiority complex. Success breeds jealousy."

Indiana and Miami aren't a rivalry - Indiana's never beat them in a playoff series in the modern era. Boston and NY (baseball?) they've beat the hell out of each other. Same way with OSU and Michigan. This isn't one.

Don't come to a Dodgers game with anything but a Dodgers jersey unless you want to leave crippled or dead.

Nobody is saying it's right, it's just the reality we live in. How anyone can be surprised with what goes on at rival sporting events, wearing the rivals jersey, I truly don't understand. You know you're putting a target on your back, you've seen the news with what goes on at places like Dodger stadium... How anyone can be surprised at this, especially in the playoffs, Eastern conference finals none the less, I will never understand.

You're assuming people are logical kind and considerate creatures, we aren't. In this case the father should have known the risks, prepared his son beforehand for the inevitable heckling, grown a thicker skin, or not wore a rival jersey. Again, it's not right, but it's the reality.

Or, do what I do, watch the game at home. You can't assume the people sitting around you at a game are as level headed and rational as you are. I would never think of beating and curb stomping a rival fan to retardation outside Dodgers stadium, but it happens, and I need to be aware of that and act accordingly.

So let's get this straight - at first I wasn't at the game, I didn't have pics, then my daughter was the one who "should have been kicked in the teeth" (even though she was hours away and I was with my son), then it's obviously my first NBA game, then I took pics the entire game, then I was in fact there but should have stayed after my son begged me to leave. And I'm a bandwagon fan because the players I rooted for in the past have retired?

Only on ISH.:facepalm Some of you on here I respect especially the fans of the game and NBA history. Many of you kids...:facepalm

I think it's classless to wear Miami Heat apparel at Indy and then expect not to get heckled. You brought it on yourself for being a frontrunner and a troll. I would've laughed had you gotten beer thrown on you.

Learn some respect.

- Fan and his son get heckled and beer thrown on them.
- Pacer fan pulls out gun and shoots 5 of them dead.

A lesson is taught to keep your fuvking mouth shut about what other people wear even if it is the opposing team they are rooting for in your home arena.

Maybe that's what it takes to get it through people's heads?

I remember last year before game 3 of the ECF I was walking downtown with some friends going to watch the game at a bar and I was wearing my LeBron jersey. This drunk Pacers fan comes up to me and starts talking shit for no reason (the Heat were down in the series 1-1 at that point). They're just a bunch of dumb, drunk hicks.

"Down in the series 1-1." :facepalm

Typical behavior that is no different than most young ISH posters on here. Typical behavior of most fans of this era.:lol

Seriously, I wouldn't want the opposing fans anywhere near the home stadium and I understand them giving you a hard time.

In Europe, they have to physically separate the stadium of opposing fans to stop riots, I think you got it pretty good :confusedshrug:

Heat fans receive hate like no other. It's the way it is..

East Coast fans solve disputes with fistfights, none of that gangbanger bullshit they do at Raiders games where people get shot at the parking lot or whatever.

Worst Coast = bloodthirsty savages who deserve to be behind bars; East Coast = Passionate Fans.

You're an Aussie, yeah? I don't know if you've ever been to a college football game in the States, but you see some crazy shit sometimes. Women, children, the elderly...nobody is spared and there are no innocents.

Why is a forty year old even wearing a Bran jersey anyways? Grow up. That's beta as fvck :facepalm

Only reason you'd wear a visiting team's jersey in an opposing homecourt anyways is to call attention to yourselves, "ooh look, I root for the other guys!" You expect them to embrace you and welcome you with open arms? Again, grow up and get real.

Yes, you SHOULD be able to wear any shirt anywhere in America but guess what, you're old enough to know better. You're forty years old, you've been to sporting events before and you're "shocked" that you'd get heckled in Indiana? Yeah right. You know you could get shot for wearing a Man U jersey at Manchester City's homefield, soccer fans don't fvck around.

Then you come here whining. Get outta here, you should know better, you get no sympathy from me.

I am sorry your kid`s experience is ruined.

However, you had no business rocking a Heat jersey at Indiana in a playoff game while they are playing their biggest rival at the moment.

I wonder what the hell is wrong with you thinking people are going to be nice to you. I fully understand those fans to be honest. At least you could have come without the Jersey, but, no, you had to rock them Heat jersey brew...

No, it is not that kind of logic. If you think more about this you would see that some posters are right.

You bring your ass to a game in Indiana playoffs in a Heat jersey and you expect not to be verbally assaulted?:lol

If OP wanted to watch the game, he would have left the Heat jerseys home. Yet he decided attention whoring is the best thing to do and he believed that if he goes there with his 7 year old son, nobody is going to abuse him.

Basically, op thought he would bring his 7 year old son to protect him from people abusing his attention whoring.

WTF is wrong with most of y'all?

Y'all act like wearing an opposing team's colors or jerseys is reason enough to get violent or be extremely hostile toward that person.

Contrary to belief here,a home game isn't only for the home team fans.
Somebody wearing your team's rival jersey or opponent does not give you the right to act like a violent, hostile, disrespectful pile of sht.

Ooh he wore the jersey of the opponent at a home game and that team is the most hated team in the world,we get to beat him up-----no.

Some of y'all do not get that YOU are NOT the team.
You do not get anything for your team you support winning or losing or just supporting a team other than brownie points maybe.

Y'all up here Jordan GOAT 6/6,LeBron the GOST,Kobe da Gawd,Lakers 4 Life,Bulls ALL DAY like anybod actually cares or the players or team themselves
will go "Thank You or here lick my balls, have a million"---no

It's a game not reality.Your life is not affected one way or another unless you are actually part of an organization or have money invested.
Whether your team loses or wins, your life goes on.

The most diehard fans are probably the ones who live vicariously through the team in hopes that "their" team succeeding means that they are too with it like it means something, validation.

Passion is one thing.I have friends who suport the extreme rivals of another and they're close friends.
I don't and neither do most people who actually have a brain, decency, manners, morals, know how to act attack people for something as trivial and meaningless as that.

They're can be heckling,insults about the team---sure
But attacking people personally is wrong.

Your fav players and teams don't give a crap as long as you support
somebody or some team.

Jordan didn't hate Pistons fans---hell they still buying his Jordans
Spike Lee doesn't hate Ray allen even though he played for Bos and now Mia

Why the Meltdown? How can you possibly be so mad at a game in which your own team wasn't playing, and a division rival lost? And a full day after the game is over? Christ man, you might want to reevaluate your life choices.

Or just do everyone on ISH a favor and take a ride into the South Side of Chicago. Join the fun

I still think people are idiots for taking things so seriously at a game but honestly...you probably would have been fine if only your son had the jersey on. Most people would probably recognize that the kid is a Lebron fan and just shut up but since you had one on they felt more comfortable yelling.

That sucks, but you definitely should've seen that coming..

You're wearing the opposing team's jersey and colors in the home team's gym. Not to mention the rivalry in discussion is probably the most intense, bitter, hateful rivalry currently in the NBA. Of course you have the right to wear what you want, but that doesn't mean common sense doesn't apply.

The worst part isn't just that you ignored this, but that you ignored it and brought your 7 year old son there. Seriously, what did you expect? A bunch of pumped up, drunk basketball fans to graciously welcome fans of the rival?

Holy $hit the amount of morons in this thread is appalling. So now I brought my son there to SHIELD me from hecklers? First of all, we root for Miami. Period. Plenty of other people were there wearing Miami gear. Secondly, I have NO problem with them heckling ME - I'm grown, son. Been through quite a bit in my life and I wasn't affected AT ALL by what was said TO ME. But when you scare my 7 year old and cross that line then yeah, I will defend him.
Grow up. We were not attention whoring - just there to support our team. How people can draw such conclusions from a father taking his son to a Sunday DAY game in downtown midwestern Indianapolis is beyond me.

Well, the good news is I've blocked all the idiots so far...my favorite was whoever said "he CAUGHT feelings". Who are you, Bobby trendy? No one in the real corporate world uses that phrase. I lol'd a lot.

I think it's funny how OP says he met some "very cool Pacer fans that suggest we go to the lower level". Those people were probably trolling him knowing that's where the die-hards were and would give him a hard time. :oldlol:

OP is just overreacting anyway. "Oh no, they told me to get out of here!" What's so bad about that? It's obviously a joke. People are acting like he got physically assaulted at the game. What really happened is the Heat were playing like shit so his son started crying because they weren't winning, and people around him were celebrating. Kids cry over anything. This guy claims they "root for the Heat" but they left before the fourth quarter even started... dude, you and your son are not Heat fans, period. You're just a frontrunning phaggit looking for sympathy on an internet forum.

Ok guys, maybe we should start up a fundraiser to repair the emotional damage that OP and beta son had to deal with at the game. Next time just stay home and leave those seats open for real men who understand the dynamics of live sporting events. Dude's talking about responses on ISH not being in line with what someone in the "corporate world" would say.. :facepalm :biggums:

OP: I yelled back "Are you guys proud of yourselves? He's SEVEN years old!!!!!"
