Corny and overdone, practically every single mix maker is guilty of it these days. Another thing I get tired of seeing is just tiny fragments of a play, a step back (cut away), a shot release (cut away) " OH MY ______ FOR THREE!" (cut away) Cue slow mo closeup of PlayerX gesturing or showing lots of emotion after a shot. Athletic finishes and emotional responses in general are what's shown, rather than the moves and the basketball floor game that got the player there in the first place.

These are just little things as a basketball fan that I'm annoyed with when watching most mixes that are produced at the present time. They tend to be a fans basic emotional representation of the player, rather than an actual highlight of the players particular basketball abilities on the floor. The best mixes I watch tend to be full game player recaps, draftexpress scouting videos, or the odd player fan who puts out tons of quality content on their favorite players. The worst mixes tend to come from mixers that aim to produce a wide variety of mixes from whoever is hot in the league in an effort to show off their editing skillz and ride a players popularity to generate views, and they stick to the mass-produced formula I just mentioned that doesn't actually reveal anything interesting about those players.

I prefer when mixes keep the focus on the plays being made. Once it becomes an exercise in editing ability, to the point where it's difficult to comprehend what's happening on screen, it's an issue. I think there's a healthy equilibrium to be had between editing ability and skill and staying true to the presentation of the material. It's just when things skew entirely too far in the direction of art that it becomes a problem for me.

It's kind of like the producers who have decided all these years that it's a good idea to switch to the baseline camera in the middle of a live fast break dunk. They all seem to be thinking about how cool of an art move it'd be to cut to a close up while instead, they completely forfeit everyone's ability to take in the play as it happens.

As for the draft opening, I do not mind it so much. Again, I think it's because I'm more interested in the meat and potatoes of the video. An intro is an intro and I've grown to accept that on YouTube, it just is what it is. I suppose it's just natural to open with a piece that suggests "beginning", whether it be draft footage or a starting lineup introduction.
