1949 George Mikan

30.3 ppg on .541 TS% (absolutely amazing for the time) + at least 15 rebounds per game and being a defensive anchor

There isn't any data on his MPG but EVEN if we assume he played 48 mpg his WS/48 would be an absurd .420 (remember we're assuming worst case scenario here!). Per would've been ridiculous too.

By comparison:

'67 Wilt - .253
'71 Kareem - .271
'91 MJ - .333
'94 Hakeem - .210
'00 Shaq - .283
'03 Duncan - .279
'09 Bryant - .238
'11 Dirk - .210
'12 'Bron - .284

Mikan - > .420

We can clearly conclude from this that Mikan was at least twice as good as peak Hakeem.

I have him 1/1A with mike, but the more I research i don't even think mj stacks up to him. He's on a tier of his own.

During his playoff run Mikan's team player the Washington Capitols, Rochester Royals, and Chicago Stags.

Capitols Starting Center - Kleggie Hermsen (6-9 would be listed 6-11 today)

Royals Centers - Risen (6-7/6-8 today), Mike Novak (6-11 today)

Stags Centers - Ed Mikan (6-10 today)

It definitely was. Great to see the younger generation starting to appreciate Mikan for what he was -the GOAT.

Did you take that photo of Mikan? I didn't believe that Mikan actually had the GOAT '83.3 game', I feel so stupid now :facepalm

We didn't have cameras back then so i had him hold still while i sketched the picture. And yes Mikan's 83.3% game remains the most legendary performance i have ever seen. In fact if we adjust Mikan's 83.3% game to Wilt's 100 point game Mikan would've scored 141 points... :applause:

Don't forget that Mikan himself was just 6'10, so it's not like he had 5 inches over everyone like Wilt:bowdown:

just pure domination

After winning the NCAA title in 1945, Oklahoma A&M played NIT champion DePaul in a Red Cross benefit game. Kurland outplayed six-foot-nine George Mikan in a 52-44 victory that meant an undisputed national championship. Kurland was named All-American three years in a row and won the 1946 Helms Foundation award as the nation's outstanding player. After graduating, Kurland went on to further basketball heights with the Phillips Petroleum Company 66ers and with gold-medal winning U.S. Olympic teams in 1948 and 1952.

Bob Kurland... GOAT.

why does OP have Hakeem's weak ass .210 and not Kobe's .260 championship run in 2001, or .238 in 2009?

and 94 was not peak hakeem, just his best year in the Playoffs, but he was already 31 years old.

can't believe hakeem had a ws/48 of .143 in the 94-95 Playoffs, where he led the team to a title...

Again,

You would never see a 6-8 white guy running away with the rebounding title in the 2010's. Or a 37 year old 6-2 white guy leading the league in assists, and in only 33 mpg, in the '10's. Or a 6-11 injury-prone, cement shoed, white guy leading the league in bpg in the '10's. Or a 6-3 white PG, playing full time, shooting .357 (with a season high of .381) in the '10's.

Nope, that only happened in the 50's.

I don't know if this is a joke thread or not, but Mikan should be included in more top 10 all time lists.

If you go back and look at his resume he was extremely successful in a short period of time, probably had top 5 worthy career. It doesn't make sense why a player that influential and impactful to the history of the game is left out/forgotten amongst the all time greats.

Time for a serious post, this is pretty much spot on. It's impossible to rate players from different generations. The only fair thing to do is to rate how they fared against the competition in their era.

You can only rank players from the same era. Top 10 players by decades or something. The game has evolved/changed so much over the years that you can't compare stats across eras. Mikan was the GOAT of his era, but you can't go any further.

Brans 2009 was and still is the GOAT playoff run:

35, 9, and 8 per game

And this was until game 6 of the ECF not 10 games like Mikan

LeBrons 09 playoff Player Efficiency Rating : 37 - 4 points higher than the 2nd best all time

Bran had the GOAT playoff run and it aint even close

Didn't win a ring and if they counted Rebounds and blocks for Mikans '49 run his PER would've been at least 40.

Except with PER they adjust for pace to negate inflated stats

Wilt had seasons of 50 points 20 rebs averages but his highest season PER was around 31, so u think 30 and 15 from Mikan would be a PER of more than 40?

It wouldnt be more than 25 tbh

You clearly don't know your eras. The 60s was a fast paced era with inflated stats. In Mikan's era there was no shot clock so the pace was even slower than it is today.

Case in point Mikan in his '54 run had a PER of 33.6 (highest ever recorded for a championship run) despite only averaging 19/13 (only 21/15 per 36). Mikan's '49 PER would've EASILY been 40.

You mean the run where he ballhogged and gave up in game 6 against Orlando and got lit up?

Mikan faced better competition against tougher rules and actually won a championship.
