Approved? The sale itself or the new owners?
Because the article on ESPN.com says the team will be sold, and both him and his wife have agreed to sell the Clips.

Maybe Sterlings are just having their friend put a high bid on the team so they won't get shafted by a bad deal? Could be a fruitless attempt if NBA completely revokes any bids made by associates of Sterlings though.

That's a valid point, but I was just stating what Simmons reported. He claims at least 10 ownership groups actively looking to buy the team and seems very sure of at least $1B sale price (he initially thought $1.5B). Even with their putrid history, the team has loads of talent in a huge market, good coach, and a local TV deal set to be renegotiated by 2016, along with the national TV deal that will get renegotiated by 2017, I think.
I could see at least $1B in this case.

The NBA doesnt care. They didn't care Sterling was an owner in the first place.
The media and the minorities care. Let an old white guy buy the team. If hes a democrat it will help (although Sterling was a democrat as well) but the public will want a black man in charge or at least a black guy as the face of an investment group.

Plus the bucks deal was for almost 1/2 the price that I suggested for the Clips.

Fisrt off, they aren't stupid.
my point with the bucks is they sold for over twice what their net worth was....and they're in MILWAUKEE!!
Lastly they can just sell it to whoever, the board of governors still need to vote the new owners in.

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story/_/id/10973679/donald-sterling-allows-shelly-sterling-negotiate-sale-los-angeles-clippers
Disgraced Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has agreed to allow his wife, Shelly, to negotiate a forced sale of the team, sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.
Shelly Sterling and her lawyers have been negotiating with the NBA since her husband was banned for life by commissioner Adam Silver on April 29 for making racially charged comments on an audiotape.
While the league has yet to accept this arrangement, sources said that if she is willing to sell the entire team with terms that are acceptable to the league, this could bring a startlingly quick end to what appeared to be a protracted legal battle.
[+] EnlargeDonald Sterling has agreed to let his wife, Rochelle
Kyle Terada/USA TODAY Sports
Donald Sterling has agreed to let his wife, Rochelle "Shelly" Sterling, negotiate the sale of the Los Angeles Clippers, sources told ESPN.com. Shelly Sterling is an alternate governor of the team.
Shelly Sterling does intend to sell the Clippers, however it remains unclear how much of a share -- if not all -- she's willing to sell, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Sources said the only way the NBA would accept the terms of this agreement between Donald Sterling and his wife would be if the team was sold in its entirety.
Among the issues she is considering, the source said, are the substantial tax obligations she will will incur from the sale.
According to IRS rules, the Sterlings would have to pay a federal long terms capital gains tax of 20 percent and a California tax of 13.3 percent. The tax would be on the difference between what the team was bought for and what it is ultimately sold for. If the team is sold for $1 billion, the Sterlings would be taxed $328.5 million on the sale. Sterling bought the team from Irv Levin in 1981 for $13.5 million.
In addition to the lifetime ban, Donald Sterling was fined $2.5 million by Silver after the release of a TMZ recording in which he told a female friend, V. Stiviano, not to bring black people to Clippers games.
The NBA filed charges to terminate Sterling's ownership of the Clippers this week. He has five business days -- until next Tuesday -- to respond to the charges. A hearing was set for June 3 in New York, with a vote of the board of governors to take place thereafter.
Sterling's lawyer, Max Blecher, responded to the charges by asking for a three-month delay. That request was immediately turned down by the NBA, sources said.
Blecher indicated in his email to the NBA that Sterling intended to fight the charges and the move to terminate his ownership, saying he did not believe he'd done anything to deserve such punishment.
But a source said that over the course of this week, Sterling has rethought his position and formally agreed to allow Shelly -- an alternate governor of the team -- to negotiate a sale.
NBA rules, however, prevent him from transferring a controlling interest in the team to anyone. A new controlling owner would need to be approved by the board of governors, and Shelly Sterling would not be approved.
While Shelly Sterling's lawyers have made it clear to the league that she intends to maintain her 50 percent interest in the team, they have also stated both publicly and privately that she would like to resolve the situation amicably.
The agreement between Donald Sterling and his wife was first reported by TMZ.

To be fair Magic is probably just as racist
As racist as Donald Sterling? Proof? :oldlol:
n August 2006, the U.S. Department of Justice sued Sterling for housing discrimination in using race as a factor in filling some of his apartment buildings. The suit charged that Sterling refused to rent to non-Koreans in the Koreatown neighborhood and to African Americans in Beverly Hills.[5] The suit alleges Sterling once said he did not like to rent to Hispanics because they "smoke, drink and just hang around the building," and that "Black tenants smell and attract vermin."[5] In November 2009, ESPN reported that Sterling agreed to pay a fine of $2.73 million to settle claims brought by the Justice Department and Davin Day of Newport Beach that he engaged in discriminatory rental practices against Hispanics, blacks, and families with children.[6] In addition, Sterling was also ordered to pay attorneys' fees and costs in that action of $4,923,554.75. [Order Granting Motion for Prevailing Party's Attorneys' Fees and Costs, dated November 2, 2005, C.D. Cal. Case No. 2:03-cv-00859-DSF-E Dkt No. 454]. In granting the attorney's fees and costs Judge Dale S. Fischer noted "Sterling's' scorched earth' litigation tactics, some of which are described by the Plaintiffs' counsel and some of which were observed by the Court. The Court has no difficulty accepting Plaintiffs' counsel's representations that the time required to be spent on this case was increased by defendant's counsel's often unacceptable, and sometimes outrageous conduct." [Id. at p. 5]
In February 2009, Sterling was sued by former longtime Clippers executive Elgin Baylor for employment discrimination on the basis of age and race.[7] The lawsuit alleges Sterling told Baylor that he wanted to fill his team with "poor black boys from the South and a white head coach".[5] The suit alleges that during negotiations for Danny Manning, Sterling said "I'm offering a lot of money for a poor black kid."[5][8] The suit noted those comments while alleging "the Caucasian head coach was given a four-year, $22-million contract", but Baylor's salary had "been frozen at a comparatively paltry $350,000 since 2003".[7]

This is nt true. The sterling's know that the nba will refuse their offer, and then they will use this refusal in future litigation to demonstrate that the nba was uncooperative.
They know this will happen as if the nba ratifies the transfer then Shelly sterling can elect not to sell and the nba will not be able to do anything about it.
The nba is probably ****ed really. Especially if the owners don't reach the 75 percent vote threshold.

This is why Sterling not being affiliated with the Clippers is a GOOD thing. I mean, they nearly lost all their sponsors (no sponsors, no games on TV) and if he kept the Clippers, hardly anybody would want to play for them. Those are serious issues. The longer he stayed, the more the team wold be associated with racism, and it isn't smart to be associated with racism.

Lol @ those Lakes
But why would anyone buy the Clippers and move them out of LA/orange County. That makes no business sense at all.

lmao @ these keen ISH business minds.
Buy a team worth $1.5b because it is in LA and actually makes money and move it to a city that couldn't even support its own team.

Where'd you get 1.5 bilion?
Latest Forbes ranking has them at 600 million and that was before this mess which will knock some off the price because sponsors/partnerships are part of the valuation

Wow, the lakers may actually finally change their name. The new owner wants the team to have a name that fits with California, not an old name from their days in Minneapolis. I agree..there are no lakes in California.
Have you ever been outside? ****ing neck-beard.

A groups of owners from this forum would be the worst ran team in the history of forever.

Absolutely not. The Bucks went for $550 million, there's no way the Clippers will only go for $50 million more. The sponsors and partnerships will come flooding back once Sterling is out, and the Clippers value can only rise in the future, given the Lakers current crappiness. I believe the NBA is about to negotiate a new TV deal too, which will factor into the present value of the Clippers.
Also, this is a nice link of the list of Forbes valuation of teams:

Seriously, the KNICKS have EBITDA of 96.3 million? Jesus

They've decided not to fight to keep it. Who am I to argue? It's theirs. If they have decided to sell, why should I disagree with their decision?
:oldlol:
You are such a dumbass. They didn't "decide" anything. Their ownership rights are being taken away.
When all this crap happened Sterling came out and said he wasn't selling. He even went so far as to give his wife control of the team. His lawyer came out and said the NBA had no right to take the actions they did.
Bottom line is that there is no decision to make. The team is being sold with or without their consent.
And what about the minority owners? You said the NBA couldn't force them to sell? You going to backpeddle on that too?

Bro  these Sterling supporters avoid this thread like Mark Cuban avoids black men in hoodies. I wish I had the time to dig up some of their old posts. They literally said that the NBA had no grounds to remove either Sterling or his wife.
