Kobe vs Duncan

they met 6 times in the playoffs

kobe won 4 of them and 5 titles while duncan won 2 of them and 3 titles

1960's - Russell vs Wilt = biggest rivalry
1970's - ( a few small rivalries. nothing spectacular )
1980's - Magic vs Bird = biggest rivalry
1990's - Jordan vs Malone = biggest rivalry
2000's - Kobe vs Duncan
2010's - Lebron vs Durant

so dont be sad about lebron not being good enough to be realistic competition until after kobes prime. its 2 completely different eras

kobe came in the nba in 96... lebron came in nearly a decade later in 2004

dunno why people think of lebron as a 2000's player. he didnt win anything. he was barely a blip on the radar during kobes time

at most he got espn awards for regular season per's ... aka mvps

oh the horror

They tried to push a Durant / Lebron but Durant IMO is still not at that level where he can play the game the right way both mentally and physically.

Lol. Nobody watched Spurs vs. Lakers in the early 2000's to see Kobe vs. Duncan. It was Duncan vs. Shaq they watched for.

pretty sure kobe was the more popular player

and kobe was averaging 35ppg and dropping 40+ during those spurs/lakers series

kobe was the mvp during those matchups. not shaq

the only times shaq lead the lakers in scoring vs sanantonio was when the lakers got swept in 1999

well when you're comparing a big to a guard its the only tie breaker when

Duncan rebounding >
Kobe play making >

Both guys are elite defenders ( kobe 9 first team all defenses ) ( duncan 8 first team all defenses )

really the only way to compare the 2 is scoring and individual matchups

kobe = 4>2

and you saw the scoring

if theyre tied in rings you look at what each guy did for them. kobe did allot more

sorry.. shaq didnt win any all decade awards

Kobe = TNT player of the 2000's

Kobe = Dime Player of the 2000's

Kobe = Slam Player of the 2000's

Kobe = Sports Illustrated top 10 athlete of the 2000's ( Duncan/Shaq not there)

:confusedshrug:

shaq was finished by 2005.. and kobe was mvp/averaging 35ppg when the lakers played the spurs

and like i said before.. shaq got swept when he was leading the way in 1999.. he needed kobe to get passed duncan

Lakers vs Spurs 2001

4-0 Sweep

Kobe = 33.3ppg / 7.0rpg / 7.0apg

Shaq = 27.0ppg / 13.0rpg / 2.5apg

LOL kobe ran the show against the best competition back when shaq was winning finals mvps against nobodies cause he knew he could hog against a sh*t eastern team without hurting their chances

Kobe never had anywhere close to the overall impact on defense that Duncan had. But sure, go ahead and just simplify it down to 1st team All-Defense. No one is going to take you seriously. They never do.

Not really, because those battles were Shaq and Duncan. So you can say that the Bird and Magic of the 2000s was Shaq and Duncan.

This is the annoyance of the Kobe stans, they're so relentless in trying to push Kobe, and actually make people not like him.

The only award that I'm aware from that list is the TNT award, which was voted by the fans over the internet, that's dominated by ignorant teenage fans who spend many hours on the internet and care about these polls, who left comment on YouTube innocently saying, because they actually believed it, that Kobe was the man and carried Shaq for three rings. Because in their young ignorant mind that have no concept of age, old Shaq = prime Shaq. I was actually a big Kobe fan at the time, but was left flabbergasted by the whole situation.

Kobe has shot under 40 percent against Detroit and Boston in NBA finals.

All it says is the Spurs defense has flaws that allow scrubs like Kobe to go off.

Wasn't really a "thing". When they met in the early 00s, it was really about Shaq VS Duncan (which makes sense since they're both bigs) and even then they didn't hype it nearly as much as they could have. If anything it was a mini Wilt-Russell more than a Magic-Bird.
