View Full Version : If the Spurs lose to the Thunder...

If the Spurs lose to the Thunder in the past 4 seasons they will have:

- Lost to an 8th seed Memphis Grizzlies in one of the biggest first round upsets in NBA playoff history.

- Gotten backdoor swept by the Thunder after being up 2-0

- Fumbled the 2013 championship at the finish-line by missing FT's, making dumb substitutions, and failing to secure a defensive rebound.

- Lost again to the Thunder after being up 2-0.

Yet I'm sure Duncan, Popovich, and the Spurs will get a free-pass by the media and the fans like they always do.

Imagine if this happened to a Kobe-led Lakers or a LeBron-led Heat.

Tim Duncan hasn't won a Finals MVP in like a decade and the Spurs haven't won since 2007.

Eh, as a fan it's just awesome to get the playoffs every single season. Having said that, 1 team wins and 29 teams lose, can't always be that winner... What should we be hating SA for? Are the Thunder not one of the best teams in their collective prime lead by the MVP?

Duncan misses out on his opportunity to tie Kobe.

I don't think Kobe has ever lost a series after being up 2-0. This will be Duncan's 3rd or 4th time. Disgraceful

Won at least 50 games each season for the past decade

Made the playoffs every season this past decade

4 titles.

Choking Franchise? Far from it.

That is the very definition of choking. :biggums:

Dominate unimportant games and then lose the most important ones.

and people say duncan > kobe

when kobes expected to win. more often than not he does

how many times have the lakers lost to a lower seed ( just 2004 and 2011 probably )

spurs have the best record every year and get sh*t on in the playoffs or choke

Haven't the Kobe led Lakers...

-missed the playoffs
-lost in the 1st round after being up 3-1
-got a 7 seed with a superteam
-back2back 1st round exists
-swept in round 2
-Kobe late game chokes against OKC

Exactly.

Just shows the hypocrisy/double-standards of fans.

All the Spurs fans and Kobe-haters shoving down everyone's throats how much better Duncan because of the Spurs "consistency", bla bla bla.

Meanwhile the past half-decade is riddled with choking in the playoffs even though they were always #1-#2 seed, being up in series, etc...

You *****ts would crucify Kobe and LeBron if it happened to them.

Now take your lumps.

Duncan is pretty overrated. I swear, any discussion about his ranking always ends up with his stans bringing up his 2003 run.

He only had 9 points today but noone cares

Yet people here still bring up Kobe and LeBron's 8 point games in the playoffs from years ago. :facepalm

OP does have a point about Spurs getting a pass. ISH would shutdown if LeBron or Kobe pulled that shit. Could you imagine Bron missing a game tying layup in game 7 of the finals? Dude would have been absolutely crucified by the media

-Parker, Green, Manu choked far worse than Duncan (whereas LeBron pretty much single-handedly cost them the title in 2011, and unlike Duncan it was against a clearly inferior team)

-Duncan was 36/37 years old. LeBron was 26 years old.

-LeBron and Kobe crave the spotlight; they expect to be crowned Gods when they win so why shouldn't they be crucified when they lose?

-Duncan blamed himself for the loss, and said game 7 would always haunt him. LeBron went on a rant about the haters.

You see the differences here? Duncan should not have been the best Spur in last year's Finals, but he was. Yes he choked that one play, but without his production the team isn't even in a position to make a game tying shot.

It's funny though, because only Kobe haters really bring up his three air-balls. It didn't really hurt Kobe's legacy because he wasn't in his prime (he was two years off). Duncan's been past his prime for 6-7 years, and at 36/37 he was still dropping 19/12 in the Finals.

So now Duncan is "past his prime for the past 7 years".* I thought Spurs stans were just telling us about how Duncan is a Superstar still, and as high as Top 3 last year (because he lead his team to the finals as "the most important guy"), and now you want to use the "he's too old, it's not his fault" excuse?! :lol

Kareem Abdul Jabbar won a Finals MVP at age 38. Jordan lead his team to a 2nd threepeat and won his 6th finals MVP at the same age.

If you replaced Kobe with Duncan the past 4 years, Duncan zealots like yourself would be bringing that sh*t up 24/7 to discredit Kobe.

Take your lumps, b*tch :applause:

When did I or anyone call him top 3 last year? He was barely top 10.

Kareem and Jordan are without doubt greater than Duncan. Duncan, at 38, was better than Shaq and Hakeem though. So there's that.
