Can you guys recommend some good fantasy/dungeons/dragons type books or series? You don't have to say A Song of Fire and Ice....haven't read them but I'm considering them. I'm intrigued by the Legend of Drizzt 25th anniversary collection.

The drizzt series gets bagged out about because it started the whole dark elf craze in rpgs but there's a reason people loved dark elves because it's a really good series. A lot of the forgotten realms books are too straight forward of a dungeon crawl but the drizzt series is more mature and deep than most of the other series. Start at the start though, its as good a place as any to start witht the forgotten realms world

For other forgotten realm series the cleric quintet is pretty good (also by ra salvatore), songs and swords is good and the shandril saga is alright.

Another series I'd recommend is the gotrek and Felix series which is set in the warhammer (the table top miniature game) universe. The first 3 omnibus collection's are top notch but after those it's abit hit and miss. First collection is made up of short stories and a great introduction to the characters.

If your into abit of comedy too have you read any discworld? Not dungeons and dragons style but still some of the best fantasy books around. I particularly like the books about death and the city watch.

You should do more than just consider them.

After reading asoiaf i read "the name of the wind" and quite enjoyed that. Its not high fantasy with dragons and knights etc its a bit tamer so may not be what you are looking for. Very well written.

drizzt is iconic, but the writing is very bland, especially when you compare it to game of thrones. another series that i enjoyed was the wheel of time series by robert jordan. i really enjoyed his explanation of magic and world building.

if you like drizzt, you would probably enjoy dragonlance as well.

also try the riftwar saga by feist.

All of this is so correct, different kind of fantasy but the faded sun trilogy is on point

Seconded. Excellent book followed by a killer sequel. Eagerly awaiting the third book.

For anyone who has read Brandon Sanderson's work, which series should I start with? Mistborn or Stormlight Archive?

Well considering one is a finished trilogy and the other is a 10 book series with 2 novels out...I'd say go with Mistborn.

What do you think about the ending ? I heard new book came out in 2013 but it's about time before the first book and I'm not sure how good it will be.

Mistborn was really good.

I'm also a fan of Weiss/Hickman. Both the Dragonlance series' and their other works as well.
