Mikan also used his massive brute force much like Shaq to overwhelm his opponents under the basketball. He had both finesse and strength.

Pre shot-clock basketball really shouldn't count the same. Plus it really was an era of only white players and Mikan really was the one guy way ahead of everyone in strength, power, and coordination. In later eras even just 10 years later I firmly believe he'd still be a very effective player (HOFer...) but not the force he was back then.
