View Full Version : MVP 2015: Durant v LeBron

These are the two premier players in the league by a distance. This year, for the first time in a long time someone other than Lebron won the MVP. People argued that it was a bit of Lebron fatigue that helped Durant win the MVP.
My question is: will people use this, another loss in the Conf. finals, against him in the MVP voting next year even if he has the same kind of season?

There won't be any LeBron voter fatigue, so they won't be desperately trying to convince themselves to give it to someone else.

The voters will not be fooled again by someone who just scores and does little else, best record or not.

I have a feeling Durant might win it again purely because Lebron is coasting again...
Same thing will always happen in the Play offs though...
Lebron might only average 27/7/7 while KD averages 30/7/6 but we all know who the better player is.

If LeBron won an MVP the year after his legendary (and patented) 2011 chokejob...
Then yes, Durant can win MVP. He didn't play up to his standards, but wasn't nearly as bad

I don't think LeBron will coast and sit happily at 4 MVPs. Dude knows whats up and will try for his 5th next year.

But LeBron played great up to the Finals. KD had an underwhelming playoffs overall this year, despite the stats. Russ was OKC's driving force.

Don't forget. Miami is probably going to be doing some rebuilding next season.

If Miami reloads in regards to roleplayers, they could get back to having the #1 record league-wide. That's a good starting argument for an MVP case. The issue with the Wade maintenance program this year was that they were short another reliable wing (aka Mike Miller, thanks amnesty clause lol) to fill some of Wade's minutes. With the role players aging (Allen, Battier, Lewis, Haslem, etc.), their defense slipped imo due to lack of athleticism when Wade sat. I think they also finally get a quality starting center for next year (my guess is Gortat and they slide Bosh to PF- will play small ball in spurts during game).
If LBJ puts up his normal #s, shoots ~55/40/77, and MIA gets back to having a top defense, I can see him getting MVP next year, no problem. I know guys like Griffin and Davis will be knocking on the door, but LBJ is ticked off he didn't win. He'll be on a mission. Plus, if they 3peat this year, he'll have the lore of the 4peat narrative going for him, which may sway some voters for him.

Durant didn't win the MVP this year because of voter fatigue. He won it because he straight up deserved it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Blake or CP3 win it next year... the new owner should give them A LOT of motivation as well as almost beating the Thunder, and Blake was third in the race this year.

Meh. His stats looked pretty good as they did in the playoffs. When you actually watch his games though, you see that it's a bit of an illusion.

Not really. During the playoffs, absolutely. But during that stretch without Westbrook when he really cemented his MVP status, there was no illusion. Dude put up 37/6/6/2/1 on 69% TS with a 13-4 record over an entire month without Westbrook.

If their individual statistics and team records were identical to this season, Durant would win the MVP over LeBron 100% of the time.

That's bull shit and you all know it. Durant was unreal in the regular season, and thoroughly deserved the MVP. Lebron stepped it up and was clearly the better player in the playoffs where it really mattered though. Still, MVP is a regular season award and Durant was the deserving winner this year.

He didn't cement his MVP when Westbrook was out. When Miami beat the OKC at their home floor (Westbrook is already back), Lebron took over the MVP race. Then also I remember OKC went to a losing streak after their lost to Miami that made Lebron clearly ahead of the race. Then Miami decide to continue to take it easy in the regular season. Hell, they didn't even care about the number 1 seed in the east when they can get a hold on it

Durant needs to make one of these if he wants to go back to the finals:

Probably the same song if he wants to be certain.

Playoffs after playoffs, Durant really make me doubt it. Last year he was a complete no show in the 4th quarters against the Grizz, that was so bad it was Lebron 2010 level.
This year in the PO he hasn't impressed either, sure he put up decent numbers but impact wise, he isn't even better than WB
