NEW YORK -- Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah, winner of the 2013-14 Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award, headlines the 2013-14 NBA All-Defensive First Team, the NBA announced today. Noah, who received 105 First Team votes (223 points), makes his second consecutive appearance on the First Team.
Joining Noah on the NBA All-Defensive First Team are forward Paul George of the Indiana Pacers (161 points, 65 First Team votes), guard Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers (156 points, 64 First Team votes), forward Serge Ibaka of the Oklahoma City Thunder (152 points, 54 First Team votes) and guard/forward Andre Iguodala of the Golden State Warriors (148 points, 57 First Team Votes).
The voting panel consisted of 123 writers and broadcasters from the U.S. and Canada. Two points were awarded for a First Team vote and one point was awarded for a Second Team vote.
Noah, who appeared in 80 of Chicago's 82 games, ranked sixth in the NBA in rebounding (11.3 rpg), 12th in blocks (1.51 bpg) and added 1.24 steals. He was one of just three players (Detroit's Andre Drummond and New Orleans' Anthony Davis) to average at least 10.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.2 steals. Behind Noah, the Bulls held opponents to a .430 field goal percentage, second-stingiest in the league.
Paul led the NBA in steals (2.48 spg) for the fourth consecutive season and sixth time in his career to earn his fourth First Team nod. George ranked fifth in the NBA in steals (1.89 spg) and was the only player in the NBA to average at least 6.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals. In his first season with the Warriors, Iguodala averaged 1.50 steals, as the Warriors improved from the NBA's 19th best defense in terms of points allowed last season to 10th in 2013-14.
The NBA All-Defensive Second Team consists of forward LeBron James of the Miami Heat (57 First Team votes), guard Patrick Beverley of the Houston Rockets (44 First Team votes), guard Jimmy Butler of the Bulls (29 First Team votes), forward Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs (16 First Team votes) and Roy Hibbert of the Indiana Pacers (15 First Team votes).
For the first time this season, complete media voting results for each NBA annual award will be posted on nba.com/official following the announcement of each winner. Serious question, how the **** are some of these people allowed to keep their jobs after confirming how little they know about the game? This isn't just some casual mistake, it really takes someone completely ignorant of the game to pick Harden. To the people poking fun at Kobe, you don't understand the game.
Kobe was so good defensively, his job was to roam and guard multiple positions at one time. He could EASILY lock down one player, but that wasn't his job all of the time. He played safety so he could help his teammates and overcome their weaknesses. SOMETIMES that meant the person YOU thought he was guarding would get WIDE OPEN shots and make them.

Lebron is the new Kobe.
Not quite. Lebron's defense is definitely overrated this year and he probably didn't deserve that All-D selection(coasting) but he's never been as consistently awful as Kobe. Look at their career DRAPM:
Lebron: 2.2
Kobe: -0.9
Lebron's a positive defender. Is he Garnett/Duncan/Artest/Tony Allen level? No, but he's definitely been a good defender over the course of his career. Kobe, on the other hand, has been a net negative on defense. A one-way offensive player. Not really fair to Lebron to compare him to Kobe - a guy that didn't deserve most(if not all) of his defensive selections.

Paul, Ibaka on 1st team. Hibbert on 2nd team. :lol
We saw Paul's defense in the playoffs, dude just gets the "Kobe treatment" every year off ancient reputation alone.
We saw how useless Ibaka is without weakside blocks, Duncan absolutely raped him 1v1. We saw how ineffective Hibbert was once you attack him off the dribble and stretch the floor. We saw George's overrated defense as well. And Beverley just annoys people and plays dirty, but still get raped as we saw against Lilard. :oldlol:

LeBron has way way more haters in the media and unlike Kobe has more rivals
KD,PG,Melo,Butler,AI,KL for All D,All 1st,MVP
while Kobe usually was the most popular Guard and competition wasn't as fierce.
And well pG WAS a Better Defender than him and the media
was building him up as a SUPERSTAR,TOP 5 Player
Rival to LEBRON so he got it.
Two,Miami as we see is still the most hated and disrespected team
Wade got as many votes for all D as HARdEN yet in merch sales, all star
Wade was above Harden
Bosh only got 4 Votes
An hell we see people saying the only reason Miami is good is bc of weak east

Kobe had Haters but ESPN is Laker NATION.
Heat have fans but are by far the most hated team EVER.

:lol People starting to host a bitchfest because ESPN members voted Harden a couple times out of spite. It was a joke. :facepalm How can you not understand that? Jesus.
These are real awards, and people should not be joking around with their votes. A few extra votes could be the difference between 1st and 2nd team, or even getting on either team. If they don't take the ballots seriously, they should lose that privilege IMO.

This. Might as well hire Daniel Tosh to vote.

Wait...just realized something. Since when does the media vote for All-Defense? Is this the first year this has changed? Coaches have always voted.

Yeah, looks like I was right. Last year they had the old format:

Everyone making a fuzz about PG making it to the 1st D team.
It's either lack of recognition or refusing to recognize. But I know most people around does both so not really surprised...
Suck it! :D
You guys do really think the best defensive team of the league will not have a player in the 1st D team? LOGIC! :applause:

Wait.. So now we have the media voting for DPOY and the all-defensive teams? That's just some bullshit. Why the hell would they do that? Just more media hype and ignorant "opinions" for everyone, right there. I prefer to see the coaches voting for it, even if some just handed the vote-sheet to some assistant or something... I know people are gonna bring up Kobe or something like that but still prefer the "coaches" vote.
Surprised no one said anything about this "situation" yet. Just another shitty move by the NBA :facepalm
