dont wanna see lebron go 2 for 5 and waste 4 mvp awards and 10 years of my life having to hear how good lebron is or will be. duncan didnt get any hype and was boring. he didnt face any pressure of hatred.

so i think lebron deserves success and will actually do something with it. duncan winning means nothing. he cant catch jordan. but lebron can

plus i wanna keep kobe as the player of his generation

like i said the other day. 1 guy will gain ground in the top 10. the other will down.. lebron might be neck and neck with kobe. 1 guy ahead of the other depending on the fan base. but atleast we'l still have the 5 > 3 ammo

and if lebron ever did pass kobe in rings. i wouldnt feel bad cause lebron is more agressive offensively and would have my respect

duncan on the other hand doesnt make the spurs go. he hasnt made them go since 2003... manu was the driving force in 2005, parker in 2007.. now its manu and parker together

i would be ashamed and dissapointed if duncan matched kobe. not so much with lebron cause even though he ring chased and colluded. atleast he is the most important guy on miami and is the guy who makes them win.. asside from a lucky ray allen shot. lebron is the mvp

that being said

duncan losing might not be as damaging as it would be to lebron. but its still bad. and being known for choking his last 2 chances at catching kobe and having a worse finals win% even while playing 1 less final will be more than enough along with the 5 rings and more all nba's/ all defensive awards to be known as the player of his generation

- tnt player of the decade
- dime magazine player of the decade
- sporting news player of the decade

add a duncan nightmarish ending like losing with a missed point blank layup and choking with homecourt a year later = no chance to even have an argument with us.. final nail in the coffin

go heat

griff - What's your prediction for the series?

I have a feeling it's going to be very short, 5 games most likely. Not sure who will win, but in rematches like this, sometimes one team's done far more prep/adjusting/gameplanning.

Duncan's not even better than Shaq and you worry about him in the Top 10.

Jordan
Russel
Kareem
Magic
Kobe
Bird
Shaq
Wilt
Hakeem
Duncan
West
Dr. J
Isiah
Lebron

No way. Lebron can win at least two games himself as can the Spurs 3 point shooting.

You can not fall in the ranking when you go in the finals....

Duncan is easily in the top 10, win or lose

6 Nba finals
4 titles(or 5)
3 FMVP(or 4)
2 mvp

This is better than Kobe

heat steal one of the first 2 games and win both at home

go back to sanantio up 3-1 and lose... take the title in game 6 at home

All of the bolded players have at least a slight case for being over Duncan all-time. I could argue and debate all of them being better. Though it would be tough to make a case for West and Hakeem. They lack rings and accolades.

One more ring puts him clearly ahead. I just don't like his ring in 2013, the way he handled the last minute of game 6 (4th quarter). Nor do I like his showing in 11' and 07. That's why I am giving Isiah and West the edge - not by much. I still believe if he played up to his potential in that series it would have been over in max 6 - but he did NOT. He had poor performances for absolutely no reason (other than his usual mental block). Breaking the Spurs backbone is not hard, clearly shown in game 7 after he adjusted. You gotta attack them and take the shots.

And lose against the heat is not a disgrace...Duncan was very good in the final last year (19/12 is 49%)

It was very good for a player of 37 years old

If you lose in the finals, even if you play well, you have no reason to fall in the rankings....This is a team sport

wrong...

the ranking right now is

#6 kobe
#7 Bird
#8 Shaq
#9 Duncan
#10 Lebron

IMO with a win lebron goes from 10th to 7th. and duncan goes from 9th to 10th

the new order with lebron winning would be

#6 Kobe
#7 Lebron
#8 Bird
#9 Shaq
#10 Duncan

the new order with Duncan winning without finals mvp would be

#6 Kobe
#7 Duncan
#8 Bird
#9 Shaq
#10 Lebron

the new order with duncan winnin with finals mvp would be

#6 Duncan
#7 Kobe
#8 Bird
#9 Shaq
#10 Lebron

If you not fall in the ranking if you lose, it's okay....But Duncan is ahead of Kobe for me,even if this is close

Duncan:4 titles,3 finals mvp,2 mvp=9
Kobe:5 titles,2 finals mvp,1 mvp=8

http://www.pizzabrain.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/tumblr_lq5967mKML1qid9ybo1_500.gif

What's funny about this is, by your logic, Kobe not playing a single Playoff game in two years is better than Duncan making b2b Finals (with two losses). And, by that logic, Hakeem being knocked out of the first round however many times is better than West losing in the Finals however many times.

So Duncan losing to the big 3 pushes him out the top 10?

The only reason Duncan goes down in rank for playing in the finals is because Lebron passes him, not because he suddenly becomes worse than other retired players

Tim Duncan is good but it would take two more ships to put him above The Kobster.

Really? He already has more as his team's alpha. The only thing he doesn't have is the same amount of overall rings. Two more seems unnecessary.

but atleast we'l still have the 5 > 3 ammo

You wont... considering 3 of 5 (60%) of Kobe's rings were not obtained in the same amplitude of his last 2 or Lebrons all 3 (being the teams best player, fmvp/mvp) it basically is then the same "ammo" as for example 8 > 6 (Havlicek > Jordan).... that and that Lebron has more notable sprinkles on top of his cake (like 3 more MVPs) wont make that Kobe vs Lebron argument last extremly long imo....

The reality is Lebron has soon won 3 championships as the best player in his team, fmvp/mvp (and even very clearly the best player in the NBA) before Kobe even won his 1st championship the somewhat similar way (Kobe was 30 years old).... by the time Lebron is 30 (next season) he could have 4 of those by the time Kobe had 1....
