View Full Version : With reports the Knicks are trying to buy a late-first rounder who should they target

To me, it should be a point guard. Ennis if he falls into the 20s would be a steal. Elfrid Payton and Jahii Carson would be two other great options.

Not trade just buy? I don't see anyone giving up a 1st rounder for cash considerations

I think that's a good start.

Especially the fact that now they have a coaching vacancy.

Most of the contracts will most likely be re-written in a year or two from now. And you are generally safer going with a guard as a late-first rounder simply because big men takes time to develope, and a rookie guard is always easier to develope with a really low risk.

Something tells me that they don't exactly know who they are going to bring back, and are reluctant to give Melo the Max which will lose him out to some other team out there who are closer to contending than the Knicks.

They have good and solid pieces, and whether or not winning without a super star fits the New York fan bases taste.

That's just another story.

[B]It doesnt have to be a 1st rounder but the 6ers have #3 and #10, and five second-round picks

I don't remember a team ever buying a pick in the early-mid 20's, it's always 2nd rounders.

The Knicks should absolutely try to buy a pick or two off the 6ers, they need all the young blood they can get.

Do I have any faith that Jackson will pick someone decent? No. They definitely need to try though.

They should offer some sort of deal in a sign and trade for Isaiah Thomas/Carl Landry + the Kings 8th pick for Chandler and Shumpert + filler

That would suck for Sacramento. Also why are Isaiah and Landry put together like they have equal value?

They will have similar contracts imo Isaiah will get 6/8 million and Landry is one of the worst contracts we have signed and that's saying something. The deal is as much about getting rid of Landry as it is getting Chandler.

Imo if the Kings pay more than 4mil-5mil per season for IT he's simply not worth keeping.

Really? George Hill makes 8 mil and IT is VASTLY superior to him. He put up 20p/6a on very good efficiency.

This draft is stacked with good to great perimeter talent. Jackson would be wise to look into buying the #32 pick off Philly.

A player like Kyle Anderson would be available, who many think is one of the best passers in college this year. Then you have extremely talented guys like DeAndre Daniels predicted to go low in the second round.

One awful contract does not make another one valid but Isaiah Thomas is a great 6th man like Crawford and Nate Robinson and they get 4-5mil per season.

He's better than both of them actually. How much do you think Kyrie Irving deserves btw?

Also, it's not just Hill. Go look at any PG who's past their rookie deal. No one better than Thomas makes around 4 or 5 mil but players worse than him (clearly) make more than that.

I don't know honestly to me what someone deserves and what they get there's to many variables. I didn't think the Kings should have given Cousins max but in a way they had to cause someone else would, to me Cousins should be on like 10mil a season (but due to potential he's going to get 15). I just don't think the Kings should match anything over 5mil for IT.

As far as Kyrie I'm not a fan so I'd be overly bias in a negitive way but I wouldn't want him on the Kings anyway, but to me he deserves like 8-9mil a year atm but due to all the extra varaibles such as marketing and he was a All-Star in a conference with crappy PG's for the most part means he will get way more.

In general far to many players are overpaid and the problem is teams keep overpaying and setting a crap standard where now players like IT value sky rockets cause of it.

You can't affor to overpay and give lengthy contracts to role players like the Kings have in Landry (4 year 24million) Jason Thompson is like 6mil a year and even Chuck Hayes we gave like 5mill a season it's to much.

i thought there was a 3mil cap. the suns for years sold their pick. if the team has the money and the space i am not sure why you wouldnt want to buy every pick you can get your hands on.

- Rajon Rondo (2006) Phoenix acquired Cleveland

You're not gonna buy a first rounder in this draft. And Ennis is much better than where his draft position will be and is only in mid late teens because of the abundance of PGs in the league.

This is utterly ridiculous notion.
For example are the Suns really going to keep all 3 of their first round picks?
It's also possible Charlotte could give up one in the right deal.
The Thunder could even give up 1 even though they have room on the roster to add players.
