Spurs are going to be relevant for at least another 2-3 years. Durant is still in his prime after the Spurs are done, but I doubt hes willing to wait this long in OKC?

If Adams develops well (looks like he will) and they can find an ACTUALLY good 2-guard, then yes.

Why do they have to wait until all their main rivals are old and irrelevant before they start winning titles?

If Jabbar could, sure no problem for Duncan.

They don't but right now thats what it is looking like will happen. After the Spurs and Miami On paper they should be ahead of the rest.

"With the Spurs getting older"
how many time have we heard that phrase?
People were already saying this in 2005. In 2007 they were seen as pretty much on their last legs. And since 07, people have treated every single season as their last opportunity for contention.
They'll be a contender at least until Duncan and Popovich retire, which they'll do simultaneously, and probably won't do before 2016.

Indeed, and thats because of Duncan

Who knows how much longer Duncan, Manu and Pop continues and who Miami get to fill out the roster with the big 3 and how Wade adjusts going forward. Shouldn’t OKC if they can fill a need for a shooter be considered a team who should be winning titles right away. Brooks I know isn’t great and Perkins is still there but really shouldn’t there be no excuses going forward? More so with how good Adams looks set to develop into
next year will be the 4th/5th year straight of people saying'' Spurs are done'' at the start of the season, and call them ''contenders'' after they get the 1st/2nd seed at the end of the season.
That Pop system is not going anywhere.

If they keep their depth I see no reason why 1st or 2nd seed won

Even with all the blown opportunities in 11, 12, 13 (not their fault with WB getting hurt, and 14 (Presti ****ed them)...they should have about 7 years as the favorite each year going forward at least in the West.
Obviously we have to see what the Heat do. My guess is that the big 3 all opt out and take less money to improve the roster pretty dramatically, but we'll see.
So assuming the Heat stay the same or get slightly better...the Thunder are 1a or 1b.
And all they have to do is find a way to get a guy like Meeks and another quality big. That's it...and they are golden.
They sign Meeks and get Ed Davis or trade for Asik with their picks and they are in a perfect position both now and for the future. They'd also have enough money to extend Reggie and sign Adams when he comes up.
WB/Reggie
Meeks/Lamb
Durant/Jones
Ibaka/Collison
Asik/Adams
Brooks needs to be forced to play Lamb and Jones way more in the regular season next year to give them the kind of depth that will help in the playoffs.
I personally would love a new coach for them, but it's never just perfect. They've been a contender for 4 straight years now with the same group and so if they can't figure it out by now...it's on the coaches, management, and players...they are all culpable.
Yeah how Miami look to improve will be interesting. If they 3-peat one would think they would be less likely to take paycuts than if they lose..dunno.

Clippers are on the same tier as OKC, with one superstar in his prime and the other superstar not having entered his yet. They should be included in this conversation.

No doubt
It's likely OKC/Clippers once Spurs decide to re-tool.

And? OKC not winning titles going forward won't be because of these two.
They are still a top 3 team here.

The Clippers-Thunder series was a legit coin flip. Same tier.

I personally think the Clippers will be the dominant team after the Spurs' run is over.
I'm not sure when Westbrook and Durant become FAs (is it next year for both?), but I honestly don't see them staying together. Who knows, that could be for the best. As long as Durant doesn't go to Houston or something (because, collusion).

Not if Brooks is still the coach.
Likely this. With the ref bias the Thunder got in the playoffs this year and STILL not making the Finals, it shows how important good coaching is. There's a reason why LeBron never won a ring with Mike Brown as coach, Shaq never won a ring with Del Harris and got swept out two out of three seasons (lost in 5 the other), and the last two "dream teams", the Lakers and Nets, struggled to get into the playoffs, and why a team of Kobe, Odom, and scrubs ALMOST beat the Suns in 2006 (Phil Jackson). The Spurs and Mavs STILL contending in 2014 is a sign of great coaching as well, as Dirk, Duncan, and Ginobili are well past their primes. If Brooks is coaching next year an Perkins and Sefolosha are STILL in the starting lineup, the Clippers will be my pick for next powerhouse after the Spurs' run, as they have very good coaching, depth, and clutch roleplayers (Crawford, Redick, Collison, Barnes), all of which OKC lack. Plus they'll likely have A LOT of motivation after not having to deal with Sterling anymore and having a playoff run they can actually build on this time (once again, COACHING).
You can't win it all with a three man team, and if it was possible, Miami would be going for a four peat right now (supporting cast for 2011 Heat was Eddie House, Mike Bibby, Erick Dampier, Z, Joel Anthony, Jamaal Magloire, James Jones, Carlos Arroyo, etc. Big difference compared to Allen, Lewis, Birdman, Cole, Chalmers, Battier, Miller, etc.).

They just played a series that could of gone either way in round two. Clippers could of won that series. It was a coin toss. Dismissing that is foolish. All this with the whole Sterling distraction. To say that didn't affect them would be wrong.

Would not be surprised one bit if Duncan, Pop and Ginobili retire after next season. Duncan, Ginobili and Parker all expire after that season.

No, because they got Westbrook at point and Durant going to Texas.
