One of the GOAT Finals performances.

What's funny is I think Tim actually got the ten blocks. The stat guy just didn't count them.

His battle vs Dirk in the WCF was incredible.

A very young Dirk was outplaying/matching prime Duncan and guarding Duncan (Duncan didn't guard Dirk at all)....sucks that Dirk got injured in Game 3.

I remember this series. Kidd in his prime was a an absolute gem:bowdown:

Duncan was a beast and probably the only person who could hold a candle to Shaq at that time.

First three games against Dirk: 35.3 PPG / 18.0 RPG / 6.0 APG / 1.0 SPG / 3.3 BPG / .617 FG%

Dirk in those games: 25.3 PPG / 11.3 RPG / 2.0 APG / 1.3 SPG / 0.7 SPG / .431 FG%

Duncan outplayed Dirk and then some.

8 were recorded, but I remember counting 10, and I've seen a lot of people say the same.

Great Finals though. I think Shaq gave Tim the "Big Fundamental" nickname after what happened in the WCSF.

Just added them. Completely outperformed him.

Just added them. Completely outperformed him.

Dirk outplayed him Game 1, Game 2 Duncan edged him, Game 3 Dirk went out with injury.

And Dallas still got it to 6 games until old man Kerr went nuts.

Mavs would've won the series if Dirk didn't get injured.

It took a whole team to guard Duncan that season, he was unstoppable. The Mavs for instance completely hovered around him, double and triple teaming him quickly when Duncan caught the ball, as Duncan was like a quarterback in the post and excelled at picking teams apart. Lead the team with 127 assists (5.3 assists per game) in the playoffs. Nowitzki got in early foul trouble attempting to guard Duncan in Game 2 (Spurs later went at him with Robinson and Malik Rose), while Duncan on the other end had some good blocks on Dirk before he went down in the series. Spurs really had the Mavs number up till that point, the Mavs guards were streaky (Van Exel and Finley), and their defense under Nelson was generally weak. Spurs also ended the Lakers reign with Shaq/Kobe then went up against the best rated defense in the Finals. Duncan was just a beast. Put his imprint on every single game and hardly came off the court. Played 44-46 minutes in more than half the playoff games.

37 pts / 16 rbs / 4 ast / 2 blks / .64 FG% / 42 min @ Los Angeles (Game 6)

Did you just openly lie about Dirk outplaying Duncan and then not apologizing for your mistake?

Duncan outplayed Dirk in all three games.

No he didn't. Dirk took over in the 4th of Gme 1 and stopped Duncan on the last possession of the game.

Duncan outplayed Dirk in all three games.

I agree he outplayed him through 3 games, but not in game 1..

If you look at the stats at face value, yea, Duncan "outplayed" Dirk in game 1, but considering it was Dirk coming through in the 4th getting the win, I'd give Dirk game 1, Duncan the others.. agreed?

Didnt he get two blocks in the perimeter that they didnt count??
Probably the best performance ever. That whole series not this game.

Yep, I'm almost positive he blocked ten shots, looking back at the game.

I guess my only question would be

would he had been able to develope even more skills
besides consistently keeping up with his condition every offseason

Duncan's changed the way he's played numerous times, based on the needs of his team and as his body changed.

Go watch Duncan before 2001. He was incredibly explosive. Then when he got his knee scoped he had to start playing "smarter", for lack of a better word. This is where he improved his defense and passing. Then, as he got even older, he developed a mid-range game (so he didn't have to bang down low as much) and he worked on his Free Throw shooting.

Does that answer your question?

Watching that, you can see right away how much more advanced defense schemes are today. I watched that series when it happened, and those were two of the best defensive teams.

still.. the home team score keeper is always a fan. they make sure every little thing counts as something. i wouldnt be surprised if they inflated those blocks.

:lol

what a boring highlight video

do we really need proof of the rebounds? catching a ball?

that and free throws ruin it for me

i get it rebounding is a necessity. but my god.. unless you're dennis rodman or some other undersized guy. i dont care to see replays of it

Like I and many others have said, Tim legitimately blocked ten shots that game. The stats guy actually did his game a disservice.

They didn't give a block on that first clip, and you can see every other recorded block in the video. 8 blocks recorded, 10 actually made. One of the greatest overall Finals performances ever.
