He knows that he can coach Josh Smith into a more efficient scorer and into one of the best 2 way players in the League. People forget that Josh has all the talents in the world and will surely become one of the best players in the League with a more mature supporting cast this year.
You will be hearing a lot of Jennings to Smith this coming year!

After a guy has spent a decade in the league we should be allowed to stop talking about his potential.

This.
He's coming off of one of the worst shooting seasons ever for a player. 3.5 3pt attempts per game at 26% shooting from deep...
no pun intended

But he eats a mean breakfast though.

the pistons will never make the playoffs with Jennings and Smith. I couldn't think of a worse combination of players making that much money.

Top 10 PG and top 5 PF. They just s need a Small Forward that can shoot and have Monroe as their 6th man.

bad team around him and bad coaching. SVG will prove you all wrong.

A good defensive coach, which SVG is, can design great D around Drummond and Smith. They'll just struggle to score 90. The eighth seed is in reach but that means little in the EC.

SVG is in Detroit to latch himself onto the career of Andre Drummond, the way he did with Dwight. This time the Master of Panic better hope he doesn't ruin the relationship as bad as he did last time.

Josh Smith will put up close to 20ppg next year and so will Jennings. Not to mention Drummond's development. Top 5 seed is possible.

It is true that Josh Smith shouldn't be the scapegoat. Joe Dumars is clearly the one full blame should fall on...giving Smith and Jennings these contracts in the first place. Either way though, the guy seems to be becoming more inept as he gets older. If he can get back to 2010 form with his defense he could actually be worth what he's being paid. The problem with that is the idiot wants to shoot jumpers. This season his average shot attempt distance was 12.5 feet...it was 6.5 feet in 2010. His jump shot has not improved at all, but he is taking it more and more. If anything he should be benched immediately whenever he thinks taking a long jumper or 3pt shot is a good idea. Probably the most pathetic thing is from 10-16 feet he managed to reach 10% once...ONCE in 10 seasons.

If I was a Pistons fan I wouldn't want an offense that had Smith as the featured scorer. He really doesn't have any offensive skill that could be called above-average and there's no need to guard him if he's more than 15 feet from the basket. He's an athlete that can finish and that's about it. Top 5 seed would be no shock as the EC is bad and SVG should at least make the Piston defense strong but it won't be any better than 4th and I'd say 6-8 is more likely.

if you don't think he has good offensive moves then you obviously never watched him in Atlanta

I had that thought but it's a little unfair only because Smith has been a great defensive player in his time while TT was never consistent. Also, very few talk of Smith's potential, this is apparently just his new coach trying to deflect heat to start a good relationship and/or improve his trade value.

Actually, you have that backwards. Judging by the crowds in ATL you would think that no one watched him in Atlanta but the Hawks did get on TV and I paid attention when they faced the Celtics. Something like 4 games a year plus two playoff series. What most of the bball viewing public (not including yourself) has seen of Smith is a great athlete with decent size and no jumper.

Josh Smith fits with Drummnd.
But if he thinks he's keeping all three bigs, then, he is a dumb guy.

This is Fiddle's 4+ thread in the last few days about Josh Smith. Not only is he obsessed with the guy, but he posts irrelevant content about the player too. The quality of ISH is 75% like this.

I think we'll see Monroe get moved for a SG/SF shooter. Probably try to package him with Stuckey. Then Josh Smith will play PF, and maybe even some Center. SVG will get production out of guys like Jerebko and Charlie V. at the 4 spot as well.
Jennings / Siva
Pope / Bynum
Singler / Jerebko
Smooth / Charlie V. / Jerebko
Drummond / Smooth
Not a terrible lineup. They need a serious upgrade at SG/SF, preferably a knock down shooter.

I actually think Caldwell-Pope could turn out to be a decent player under SVG. He had a really miserable year last year and didn't shoot the ball well, but I followed him in college and the kid can ball. He's a really good shooter too if he can find his stroke.
He's a super under the radar guy to keep an eye on, if SVG can coach him up he could have a solid season.

Stuckey is a free agent so they'd have to do a sign and trade if they were gonna use him.
