Olajuwon is the best defender I've seen, but Garnett has a case. Great player. :applause:

Garnett baby. That versatility is unmatched. The ultimate 1-5er before Lebron was round. I would take him defensively over ANYONE.

Among guys I've seen live, gotta be him or Hakeem. I don't feel comfortable using the "all-time" label here, though.

How do you rate Duncan in comparison to Garnett? And Wallace?

Either him or LeBron

Both probably better paint protectors and man post defenders (though Wallace wasn't at that level for too long I feel) than KG, though not as mobile/versatile.

If you want to know something about KG's earth shattering defense, you don't have to look further than the 2002 playoffs.

Before the first round, KG made this announcement:

Garnett was asked about how Nowitzki is handling the ball more this season, similar to what Garnett does. The question brought forth one of this season's best quotes so far.

"Dirk can see this black angel pick him up 94 feet," Garnett told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "We'll see how well he handles it then."
The result?

A sweep, Dallas won 3-0 and Dirk dropped the following numers on his sorry angel ass: 30 pts /15 rpg in Game 1, 31/15 in Game 2 and 39/17 in Game three, on 52% shooting and 72% 3pt.

Hard to defend when the talent discrepancy is that wide. Garnett be defending every goddamn player out there w/ the Wolves.

KG mixes in some of those trollish Rodman antics, but sometimes he would back off when someone actually confronted him, so hmm.

Prime Artest was beastly on the perimeter.

Ask Dirk and Duncan how good he is.

Great, but don't go overboard.

Russell is a GOAT defender IMO, but after him KG is up there on a short list.

So he didnt talk shit and then get smoked??

It's almost as if he was talking loudly because they were an underdog playing a better team...

Dirk, Nash, Finley, Van Exel with home court advantage in a 5 game series vs. KG, Billups, Szczerbiak

Real shocker who won that one.

KG averaged 24/19/5/2/2, but I guess he didn't show up or anything.

Just ignore Dirk's fanboy, he doesnt even realize KG wasnt defending Dirk, probably because MavAlbert was too young to watch the series of that stacked Mavs team.

Dirks 39 points on Minnesota in 02.

Tell me KG got lit up.

Please. Come tell me that lie.

People talking shit about series they didnt even watch.

KG defends teams. Hes never been one to limit to sticking on one guy for a game. No coach has ever used him that way. It would be foolosh to do so.

You dont turn someone that mobile, well rounded, and good at communication into Kurt thomas amd say stay within arms reach of one guy.

The rare occasions hes been tasked with that hes done great work. I remember tmac saying that man to man KG was the best defender he ever faced. And he was attacking him out at the 3 point line in his prime.

I've watched the matchup for years and Dirk owns KG.

When Dallas faced Boston they guarded each other and Dirk always got the better of him.
