In the playoffs? Would rather have Manu, because that's about impact.

you're either overestimating the hops required for a 360 or badly underestimating the athleticism of prime ginobili.

of course he could bust a 360. probably did it when he was 15 or 16.

Kobe had the worst Finals performance in NBA history against the Pistons. Ginobili shreds that same Pistons team a year later.

Manu's problem is stamina/endurance. If he could play as much minutes as Kobe, he's easily the better player. Better passer, better defender, better shot selection. The ultimate team player.

Playoff stats:

2000 Kobe:

.115 WS/48

2014 Manu:

Replace this year's Manu with 2000 Kobe and I doubt the Spurs make it out of the first round.

Artillery is online now Report Bad Post

WTF are you looking at PER, WS/48, TS%, ORtg, DRtg?!?! That's how you judge if player A is better than player B? WOW, how stupid you are.

yr 2000-01 playoff, kobe avg. 29.4 pts, 7.3 reb, 6.1 ast
yr 2013-14 playoff, ginobilli avg. 14.3 pts, 3.3 reb, 4.2 ast

in fact, ginobilli never average above 21pts per in any playoff years and had the impact kobe has had on winning rings.

don't get me wrong ginobilli is a good/great player, but kobe is one of the best. it's comparing apples to oranges.

Honestly, 2005 Manu was a beast. Unfortunately, Manu's never been able to repeat that performance again. Like I said, stamina/health issues have always been a problem with his career.

If you replaced 2004 Kobe with 2005 Manu, Lakers more than likely beat the Pistons. Shaq would have another Finals MVP too. Unlike Kobe, Manu does a fantastic job running a team's offense - ultimate team player. Kobe's offense consists of lots of bad shots and isoball. Not too different from anybody on the current Thunder actually(which is probably why they're such an unwatchable team)

Impact stats don't favor Kobe either in this comparison:

2000 Kobe:
+1.81 - ORAPM
-1.70 - DRAPM
+0.11 - Combined RAPM

2014 Manu:
+4.46 - ORAPM
+0.79 - DRAPM
+5.26 - Combined RAPM

The person I responded to mentioned 2000 Kobe. Not 2001 Kobe. 2000 Kobe was awful. In fact, I don't think Shaq gets enough credit for carrying the Lakers that year. He was the best offensive and defensive player on the team.

Goes to show how flawed advanced stats like PER are. The fact that Manu's paltry 12/4/3 averages somehow equals a PER comparable to 1992 Pippen says it all.

Dude had a great playoff run in 2005 and has been living off it ever since. He couldn't carry any version of Kobe's jockstrap after 2000. And unlike Manu, 2000 Kobe didn't have the luxury of playing 25 minutes a night IN THE PLAYOFFS on his ridiculously stacked team, getting half his stats on the other team's subs. Manu might be the most overrated player in history.
