Cant recall a more hyped single sporting event.

The reason is probably because Brazil being the 2nd most famous nation when it comes to football(England the biggest.)

Everybody talks about it. Even random females on the street.

Of course not, if you search 'Most valuable sports event' on google this is what comes out:

The statistic shows a ranking of sports events worldwide in 2013 according to brand value that was calculated by Forbes. The Super Bowl is the most valuable sports event brand with a value of 464 million U.S. dollars.

If it is, it would be great as England will be getting their asses handed to them.

Most valuable within the United States, definitely. Worldwide, it's laughable to even compare--the Champions League alone dwarfs the popularity of the NFL, nevermind the World Cup.

The fact that the World Cup came in at #3 in "brand value" in a country not particularly fond of soccer should tell you something.

The world cup is an event in which the US sucks and insignificant countries can shine on a world stage.

Spain and italy are known as recession-plagued countries so winning in 2010 and 2006 is good PR for them.

France will have lots of blacks and arabs on their national squad and they will flaunt about how they are tolerant and diverse.

England will lose because...they are england...

Argentina and Brazil are exploited by the USA so maybe there could be payback sometime...

So shouldn't the unemployment ridden country with a laughable health care system and violent crime level higher than all the other developed nations have a chance there too?

No. America is the pop culture and technological cutting edge and not to mention the world's police.

The countries mentioned in my original post are hasbeens (Italy, Spain, France, England) and exploited countries (Brazil & Argentina) they all have powerful national soccer teams.

This. USA does pretty well considering soccer is only the 3rd or 4th most popular game here overall. Rest of the world are obsessed with the sport.

Your omission of Germany has been noted.

I love it when morons trot out the "third world" argument to dismiss soccer's popularity. Most of Europe has a QOL that spanks the US, and soccer rules there. Try again, pseudo-elitist.

Bombing third world countries doesn't make us significant either, it makes us lame. We're a pitiful giant at this point, perennially allowing the 1% to bend us over and have their way with us, watching helplessly as China inevitably takes over as the dominant global power. 99% of Americans are ever bit as exploited as Brazil and Argentina.

Speaking as an Brazilian, i want it to fail for political reasons but at the same time football is a ****ing religion here, so i want us to win and for the event to be a success. :lol

I am ashamed of the incompetence of the political class in Brazil, they had freaking 6 years to prepare and not even 50% of the improvements announced are done. They pretty much just built/renovated the stadiums and called it a day.

You still haven't addressed the issue of how you stuffed up in your first post by only looking at events in 2013. There was no world cup in 2013.
