View Full Version : The NBA is no longer a superstars league

Forever it has always been that unless you have that premier superstar player you are not winning anything.

This has all changed.

Part of this is could be because there may only be two legit superstars in the league?(Bron, KD). Or it could mean that individual stars cannot carry a workload like they used to.

But the league is changing and is now finally becoming more focused on teams/franchises.

This man most likely does not have a single player that is top 20 in the NBA, yet is dominating all opposition in his path. Because of superior coaching, and culture.

Even a team like the Heat. It is a TEAM, a culture. Not just a superstar and random ****ers like we saw in Cleveland. That's the difference.

funny fact:

Dallas was the only team so far that was up 2-1 against the spurs this season, with by far the worst roster of any of the spurs opponents but with a superstar coach in rick carlisle

it's becoming a coach league

There are just not that many superstars as people want to believe. Post Jordan-era Duncan, KG, Dirk, Kobe, Shaq, Kidd, LeBron, maybe Nash, maybe Wade, maybe Durant. The **** when people call Derrick Rose or Kevin Love a superstar. A decade ago Love

OP says the league is no longer a superstar league.

What I heard was: Lebron is no longer a superstar.

In the Spurs heyday Kobe and company were trashing better Spurs team like it was nothing......

Sorry your boy is weak and can't beat hobbled Parker, grandpa Ginobili and Duncan in the Finals.

Yeah i'm not sure but i seem to remember a bunch of veterans beating Kobe/Pau/Durant/Westbrook/Lebron/Wade in the same playoffs.

Kobe had Shaq back then too. It was nothing for Shaq to beast on a past his prime David Robinson.

not funny, but this.

Rick Carlisle needs better talent around him then he'd make the finals every year.

Monta Ellis is a good player, but is overrated as shit, Marion is old now, and Dalembum sucks.

I would go on to say he is a top 5 player of all-time if your talking about who you'd want to draft from the beginning of their careers(knowing in advance how they would play out).

Despite this he is 38 years old. not on any of the All NBA teams and playing less than 30 MPG. He is not a "superstar" at this point.

Tony Parker is extremely overrated as an individual player, I am not even sure if he is much better than Patty Mills as an individual. His success is because he is so familiar with the teams system, and buys into the culture.

The Spurs best player is either Duncan(per minute) or Kawhi Leonard(ability to play big minutes). The Spurs finding Kawhi Leonard in the draft is what revolutionized the franchise when it looked like their window was closing. They were aging and desperate for a young impact player. They got one.

LOL @ everybody acting like the Heat are a bunch of iso-running scrubs. Their system is based on ball movement and smart decisions as much as the SPurs.

The Heat have a great system in place. Spoelstra is a really good coach. If you want to see a poorly coached team look at the OKC Thunder.

If Parker has been the best PG in the NBA over the last half decade, than why has he never been first team all-nba. It's not like he has played his best ball in the 2010s decade anyways. :confusedshrug:

2014 Spurs are easily better than the 01, 02, 03 and 04 versions, and Shaq and company only beat a fully healthy Spurs team once. No Derek Anderson for much of 01 (yes, Derek Anderson was Duncan's second option and apparently that Spurs team is better than this one), and Robinson was injured in the 02 series.

Get a grip.

Says the guy who's been at his computer making anti-Duncan threads all week? You're probably one of the more pathetic posters on this board now -- admitting you hope lose sleep over the prospect of Kobe's legacy being tainted. How sad.

Parker hasn't lead a single team to a title. Duncan did it four times. Kobe did it twice.

Duncan > Kobe, now stop quoting me loser.
