I have backed down from a fight numerous times. I dropped out of the 9th grade because I backed down from a fight in front of a bunch of people and was too ashamed and embarrassed to return. After that, I backed out a lot going forward. My dad died when I was 7 and I didn't have a male role model to teach me how to be tough. For years, I was ashamed of myself for being so afraid. When I was about 18 or so, a guy punched me a few times in the face and all I did was cry and tell him I thought we were friends.
I'm 31 now and not as afraid anymore. I finally had enough and caught an assault and battery case for hitting a bully at the workplace and sticking my finger into his eye socket.
dude.. smell your finger that wan't his eye socket... that's why he was smiling when it was over

Late bloomer. Fighting in your 30s, at your job is not as cool as throwing down at 16 in the schoolyard unfortunately. People frown upon that sort of shit. Go figure.

A little better I suppose. Either way, fighting for no reason is absolutely retarded. If someone threatens your life/safety or that of people you care about, by all means do whatever's in your power to send them to the ICU. But if it's over some petty shit like you got your new Jordans scuffed, then why even waste the energy?
You know how many people have been killed or seriously hurt over stupid shit like that?
Sometime last year I was playing ball at a rec center, I was D-ing up this big kid. Harrassing him physically even though he had like 50 lbs on me. He kept whining, bitching, moaning non stop until he finally lost it and swung on me. Hit me in the chin. Literally the softest punch anyone has ever thrown, felt like a kitten's paw grazing me. My first reaction was to kick in his knee cap, but then I figured... why? I wasn't even remotely hurt, I didn't know the kid, had no animosity towards him, and I would've lost my damn membership. So I just laughed that shit off, let him cool down, 5 minutes later he came back to apologize and I proceeded to drop booku buckets on him. Every time I see him now, he doesn't even make eye contact with me. Nice kid overall though.
Crying and offering friendship while getting punched by another dude is pretty weak doe, I can't lie. Probably should've handled that another way.

Thanks for the story.
You did the right thing, considering you weren't scared. I would've done that and been scared back in the day, though. Same action by both of us, but cowardice on my behalf.

Sorry.
I was really depressed after that Lillard 3 on my hometown hero, Parsons.
I love Parsons deeply.

I lied. I'm a black belt in every martial art known to man. I can also bench 400 lbs, and snort cocaine off of perfect 10's titties on a nightly basis.

I've backed down from a fight in a nightclub before however I think this is the smart thing to do. Not only was I intoxicated but the club I was in has a bad reputation. In fact a 19 year old was murdered there last year. Can't be too careful.
That being said I've been in a few scraps in my life, I've barely been hurt too. No one has connected a punch properly on me and I've actually knocked out someones two front teeth before in high school.
I avoid confrontation but sometimes it's the only way to stop someone. I don't advise punching someone in the face though. When I knocked out this kids two front teeth in school I had a hairline fracture in my hand. Couldn't even pick up a cup without it hurting.

I don't know how you can ***** out of a fight and then look in the mirror the next morning. No shame in getting your ass whooped...I used to fight a lot back when I was 16-21 but after a couple of court cases and medical bills, I realized all it does is take you back in life but if someone starts spewin shit you gotta be tough, when that fight or flight response kicks in you can't get shook.

I went to clubbing at a place over an hour drive away from where I live with some friends. While we were walking back to our cars, some retarded white dude started talking sh1t to my friend's girlfriend. That got him pissed off and they were about to fight. I ended up stepping in and whooped that dude's as$ in front of his girlfriend and her friend and broke his arm. I put him in a sleeper hold position and he puked all over his stomach. His girlfriend was crying that whole time.
still have no news on that incident yet, i'll probably go to jail if caught.

Yeah, I definitely avoid bar fights at all costs. You never know what kind of shit might happen in a setting where everyone is drunk and has something to prove. It really is easy to avoid fighting because once you get older almost everyone would rather avoid it. Fighting becomes less appealing when everyone faces jail time.

I've been in situations where people try and fight, but I just walk away. Not gonna destroy all the years I've put towards a clean record over someone looking for trouble. Now, if they actually attack me, then of course I'll defend myself. Too many idiots nowadays running around with guns anyways, so be careful who you pick a fight with.

In the 7th or 8th grade a dude i never talked to was flexing infront of me out of nowhere he punched me in the gut.I was afraid of his cousin who was the toughest nga in the school by a mile.Couple friends seen it so i did nothing but play it off like it was a game where we punch each other in the gut when were not expecting it.I regret this every day of my life i would rather get my azz kicked than to ever get punked again. It will never happen again :banghead:

Had one of my teeth knocked out by some shady eastern europeans in a bar when i was 18. Literally came out of no where and started battering me for no reason. Couldnt have fought back even if i wanted to. Had a few friends in the place but no one wanted any part of them myself included.
I always try and deescalate without loosing face but if it happens i am generally unafraid of fights nowadays, mainly as I took a fairly heavy beating a few years ago. Dislocated and tore tendons in my shoulder to go with some pretty tasty bruises. Was getting kicked on the floor for some time.
You have to know when the odds are stacked aginst you. Fights are rarley fair and you can be an idiot and get yourslef pasted or worse if you arent smart about it. I got into a fight witha tuk tuk driver in thailand which could have gone pretty badly for me as i was an idiot. As you get older you seem to get into far less trouble for one reason or another anyway. No shame in backing down in many circumstances.
Yeah, i don't fight for pride. I'm not going to hit someone because they called me names or because they need attention. Took a lot of shit for it too, apparently i lost "cred". It didn't seem to affect my life going forward though.
