I fly to the west coast from time to time, and soon as we near the rocky states, here comes the shakes. Never fails. I'm almost at one of those "whole life flashes in front of you" moments. I know it's nonthreatening and is practically the equivalent to driving on a bumpy road, but it's still nerve wrecking to this day.

Anyone else get this feeling?

That's why I don't fly. I once flew from NY to Miami and our plane did a 1000 ft drop in an air pocket in a matter of seconds as reported by the pilot. Yeah, I thought it was the end.

Plus, it seems that when planes crash, everyone dies. You at least have the chance of walking away from an automobile crash. You can still reach the rest of the world by cruise ship, so the options are there. But humans were not meant to fly.

'Air pocket' is just a convenient term for turbulence. There really are no random pockets in the sky where air flow is non existent.

And you don't 'drop' altitude like that, especially 1000ft. It probably dipped 40-50ft on the altimeter and everyone thought they free fell thousands of feet.

I've found that I don't really feel the turbulence as much in 1st class although that may have more to do with the free booze.

Quit being a *****. Commercial airliners don't crash anymore. The list of things that are more likely to kill you would astound you. The food on the airplane is even more likely to kill you!!!

Absolutely, what could go wrong on a cruise ship?
