How come kids speak normal growing up, then when they realize they're gay some of them start speaking in the stereotype camp gay accent you see on network TV?
Where does that accent come from? Are these kids forcing themselves to speak like that on purpose? why?

:oldlol: Nick Young is "curious".
He's right though, every time I hear a gay person speak they tend to have this twang to them. It's really annoying. Theses probably the main reason why I dislike their ways. I understand closet gays because they don't do the obvious twang.
I think it is a cultural thing. The small-ish town I grew up in had about 5-10% rednecks. I knew kids that grew up talking normal and when some joined the redneck/mudding people in town, they started talking more redneck-ish.

Uh, I'd say 10% of gay people do this. It's not common. Most of them talk normal and in fact, you wouldn't know most of them were gay unless they just told you. They generally look and talk the same way as straight men.

Yeah I dont care that they f*ck dudes. F*ck who you want! Whats annoying is they always seem to be acting and being fake when they do that camp shit. Like I knew a dude growing up in elementary school and middle school, he was a macho dick bully in kickball and dodgeball. Ran into him at a house party the other night and he was talking in the gay accent and doing limp wrist bullshit talking about Lady Gaga. He used to have a texasy southern accent and he used to beat the shit out of people.
So it's like he's forcing himself to speak that way. I wonder why. If they just acted normal everyone would treat them normal.

Most of the LGBT stuff is bs. Being gay can't change your voice or interests anymore than any other sexual deviation (like foot fetish) can.

if i offend anyone its not my intention
but every dude i've ever met that had a lisp, moved very fem, regularly hung their hand...
was gay.
I even had a RA in college who had all of that and swore he was straight. like 6 months~ later dude comes out of the closet.
i can probably count the people i've met with those tendencies on one hand, and at this point i just assume they are when i see those characteristics :confusedshrug:

it comes when they choose to be gay
it's in the manual, along with the gaywalk and a bottle of lube

If I had to guess, I'd say it has something to do with the way the interaction of sex and identity in a social context. Sex is hugely important when forming some sort of larger social identity. It plays into how we perceive masculinity, femininity, gender roles, etc. It has to be pretty hard to maintain a "normal" opinion of your own masculinity as a gay man. Society embeds in us an identification of masculinity as powerful & dominant sexually while describing homosexuality as weak & submissive (and therefore feminine). I've gotta imagine there is a more than fair share of cognitive dissonance going on and it makes things easier to adopt a more feminine social persona.

This is very true. Our language, consciously and unconsciously is used to convey different things about ourselves. Studies have even showed that straight men speak with deeper tones when talking to other men, and use higher pitched voices when talking to females without even knowing it.

It's also an identifier for them so they aren't hitting on straight dudes. But with that said, one of my best friends is gay and you would never know it. I'd like to see a study done about it, it's quite an interesting subject.

There's a certain type of men in the South that speak with a feminine tone. Some are gay but most are straight but sound gay. White people from the old south (Charleston, Savannah, New Orleans) often have feminine mannerisms. It's rather confusing and annoying.

One of my previous managers had the accent, but as far as we could tell he was straight. He had a wife and kids an everything, but his speech pattern and the way he cared himself was exactly like the gay stereotype. He did grow up in a house with only sisters and no dad, so that could be an explanation. We'd all make jokes about that guy cuz of his voice. :lol

Most gay people don't speak like that; hence you don't know who most the gay people are.
