There was never really any question that Sr. was/is a badass. That designation goes hand-in-hand with landing airplanes on an aircraft carrier and flying 58 combat missions in World War II. There are astronauts who claim that the most difficult/harrowing thing they've ever done is put an aircraft down on a carrier in difficult weather/night time/etc - that should really tell you all you need to know about it. And Bush was doing that when the science and mechanics of it were in their infancy.

Yeah, but there is a difference between being a badass in your prime and being a badass when you are 90 and your legs don't even work.
