View Full Version : FMVP is not decided yet (Duncan vs Leonard)

Myth

Everybody is ready to give FMVP to Leonard, and he is in the lead, but it is closer than people make it seem and 1 game is enough to change that lead.

Totals:
Duncan 63 points (24-41), 42 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks.
Leonard 67 points (23-39), 22 rebounds, 8 assists, 7 steals, 5 blocks.

Averages:
Duncan 15.7 points (58.5%), 10.5 rebs, 2 asts, 0.5 stl, 0.5 blk
Leonard 16.8 points (59.0%), 5.5 rebs, 2 asts, 1.8 stl, 1.3 blk

Duncan has a large lead in rebounds, points are marginal (4 total points difference), assists are tied, Leonard has a strong lead in steals and blocks, but those seem to get overlooked compared to the big 3 stats (pts/rebs/asts).

FMVP is still up for debate between these two. I think if Duncan overtakes Leonard in points, he will get it with the lead in points and rebounds. If not, Leonard takes it.

I think this is a very rare instance in which a co-FMVP may be appropriate. Right now, I'd favor a Duncan/Leonard sharing of the award.

If I had to narrow it down to two guys on their roster who've impacted the series the most, it would be those two. The Spurs deserve multiple winners this year, because singling one guy out on this perfectly constructed team just feels wrong.

If you factor in Kawhi's defense on Lebron, it's clearly him as of right now.

True, but Duncan changed the course of tons of a shots near the rim as well, which is also not reflected on the stat sheets.

They're both having a huge impact defensively. Obviously, Kawhi is arguably the best one-on-one defense the league has against James... but a lot of what the Spurs are able to do out on the perimeter is possible because of the way Duncan takes care of everything inside the paint and he constantly does so without fouling.

Leonard/Duncan. Co-MVPs

Depends on who plays big in game 5 IMO.

Probably this, Kawhi's defense is brilliant, still co-FMVP would be very nice touch IMO.

I don't know Diaw's stats but he impacted the game just as much
also what's Parker averaging?

After some thinking, I would just give FMVP to Pop, seems the most fitting :confusedshrug:

Duncan.has better rebounding(as he should. He's the primary rebounder for the Spurs.) Leonard has made a bigger impact.

Leonard has made a bigger impact.

In blowouts. Duncan stepped up more in the 1 game Spurs won that required an individual to step up.

Still Duncan, Leonard wasn't as good in San Antonio.

Duncan was great in the first 2 while Kawhi was bad, and Kawhi was great in the second 2 while Duncan was average-bad. It's about even with Kawhi's defense on LBJ though. Next (few) games will determine it.

If Kawhi wins, where will he rank among the youngest FMVPs?

I think you could give it to 4 different people. Danny green has been no joke, Many has been brilliant, Boris Diaw been brilliant.

option 1-jerry west type of FMVP for lebron
option 2-first coach to win a FMVP

everything else is just wrong and disgraceful

Kawhi Leonard had 2 bad games to start the series, and we shouldn't sleep on Parker either.

So it's undecided yet, it'll depend on who steps up in the closing game (assuming the Spurs win the series of course). I would say Duncan, Kawhi, and Parker each have an equal shot at the award, and all three will deserve a lot of credit (along with Boris) whoever wins it.

If the Heat lose the series there is no way Lebron gets FMVP - his team has already been smashed in two games and completely outclassed and he's had pretty much zero impact on the fourth quarter of any game.

Either way it wouldn't be a disgrace for a Spurs player to get it. The Spurs need to be recognized for what they are doing.

I say give it to whoever plays the biggest and does the most to close out the Heat. Duncan played much better in the first two games, Leonard didn't really show up offensively. Leonard has now had two massive games. I mean should just reward it to the entire team because so many different players have stepped up at different times.

Diaw just being on the court has caused so many issues for both Okc and the heat

Rubio2Gasol

Upon further thought, I think I'd give it to Diaw.

Would probably be the only guy ever to win FMVP averaging less than 10 a game :lol

This is very true, starting him has affected the heat and we play so much better with him
hes so intelligent on offense and defense
great IQ player
but the FMVP has to be Leonard. This guy is taking on the toughest challenge to gaurd Lebron. and hes been playin well. Lebron is gonna get his but hes not dominating like htat

Give it to Tim Duncan. Kawhi is too autistic for my taste. Don't want to deal with all the media attention he would get. He looks retarded and gives boring interviews, I'm talking about Duncan now. Kawhi IS retarded and gives boring interviews so I hope it goes to Duncan.

Boris Diaw or Parker?

They have by far the most charisma.

If we're taking "MVP" literally, it should be Lebron's. He's been by far the most valuable individual for either team. Spurs have been a magnificent collective effort. Heat have been shit besides LBJ.

In reality, I think it goes Duncan.
