Let him walk if I have to. He's still better than a lot of SGs in this weak SG era but not worth the max, especially at his price.

Though Wade's still got 2 more years on his contract so I'm not sure why he'd be asking for the max right now.

That's a tough one. Wade is by no means a max player anymore. He's honestly not even as good as Bosh. I have faith that Riley will make him see the light. This is D. Wade we're talking about. He knows The Heat Will take care of him for life. He can take a cut now, but they'll give him a longer contract and there will be a place for him in the organization when he retires.

He could terminate it now, and resign for up to 5 years

I'm a big Wade fan, but the dude's done now. They rested him for a good deal of the regular season, and he can't give them two good rounds. :facepalm

I calmly explain to him that he missed half the damn season. We're trying to acquire more help for you, Lebron, and Bosh. The main goal here is winning championships. If you want to be part of a winning dynasty, you'll take less money. If you want us to keep sucking and going to game sevens or losing NBA Finals, then you can take the max. It's up to you Wade. You want to win or lose? Make your decision.

He has no choice to opt in and get his 20mil. Not sure if that will sit well with LeBron though.
When is it James' turn to take 30 games off while Wade carries the team during the regular season?
If Wade still wants a chance at winning rings, then he needs to opt out and sign for like 12mil per year.

why would wade ask when he can tell.
Where's this notion that Wade is going to ask for a max contract? Ignorance everywhere.
Wade has an early termination option. He's got 2 years, 42 million left on his current deal. He's set to make 20 million next season. Should he exercise that ETO, he'll obviously being doing so to take less per year, but get more years.
With that being said, I fully expect him to take that 20 million next year. It's simply the financially sound thing for him to do...we'll find out soon. He's sacrificed before, wouldn't be surprised if he did it again.

Wade seems to have interests outside of basketball and I wouldnt be surprised if he doesnt try to "play until the wheels fall off." Some of it depends on where he is financially as well but he might not even be looking to try and play as long as people are expexting him to.

Miami could probably offer him like $80 million on a longer contract though. Keep it real. If Wade takes that $42 million, he'll be like 35 and won't get a bigger contract that if he would have just taken the $80.

what's this BS about wade being done? he just came off a great season and he's actually been playing pretty well in the finals beside the last game. people are overreacting like crazy. last game was only bad because he was missing shots he almost always makes. he's still moving well...his career is far from over

Yeah, he still pretty good NOW. How many good years do you really think he has left though?

The fact that he won't be able to play back to back makes his contract a lot less. His knees are probably gonna be Amare's level very soon. The cartilage around his legs are gone at this point because of his athleticism. Flash is gone, sorry. He probably has 2-3 years left as a starter, if that.
Wade opts out, takes 4 years 60 million(he's subjected to the plus 36 rule, can only sign for a maximum of 4 years) Works for everyone. He get more years/guaranteed money(nice retirement package) Heat get some wiggle room in terms of cap/luxury tax flexibility. This could be the difference between being able to use the 5 million dollar Mid Level, as opposed to then 3 million dollar mini mid level.
Miami will be fine regardless of what happens, but Wade taking some off the top will certainly do wonders. Same for Bosh.

Let's be real, LerBran is going to leave to team up with Melo in Cleveland or New York, maybe even go to Chicago, while Wade and Bosh are going to stay in Miami because they couldn't get 20 mil anywhere else.

honestly i think he has 3 years left playing at around the same level he's at right now if they limit his GP, and that's still an elite shooting guard level. he's one of the few SGs in the league who's actually capable of running an offense when he's asked to. i really wouldn't be surprised to see him work on his 3 point shot this off season and extend his range so he doesn't have to take it to the rim all the time. we might even be seeing glimpses of that right now...he's shooting well from beyond the arc this playoffs
he NEEDS to stick with lebron though. he can't be asked to run an offense by himself and be the first option. he's still overall an elite second option even if he's been underwhelming the past couple of games

addressing the question of whether or not you give wade the max: no, i don't think so. i'd give bosh the max, though, and give him a lot more touches. use the d wade money to sign a better PG and a real C to put beside bosh

Why the facepalm? It's not as far fetched as it seems. In fact Cleveland gives Lebron the best chance to play with a young / deep squad.
Kyrie - Waiters - Lebron - Melo - Embiid
Jack - CJ Miles - Bennett/Gee - Thompson, Varejao - Zeller
That is a great starting five in a terrible Eastern Conference
----------------------------------------------------------------
Or Cleveland signs Lebron and Melo then trades:
- Bennett (#1), Thompson (#4), Waiters (#4), Zeller (#17), and Varejao for Love and Pekovic
Minnesota clears out Pekovic's deal, gets 3 top 5 picks including last year's #1, an expiring in Varejao, and a young C in Zeller. Wolves completely retool and can even buy Varejao out if they choose.
Cavs become: Kyrie - Lebron - Melo - Love - Embiid / Pekovic
Who can offer more than the Cavs in a Love deal? NO ONE. And how does Love turn down playing with Lebron (best player in the NBA) and Melo along with two #1 picks.
-------------------------------------------------------------
If you are Lebron why wouldnt you return to Cleveland play with a much younger team that can allow him to rest while bringing a championship to the team that drafted him and his hometown team? lmfao to all the people saying Bron is resigning with Miami esp with Wade. Why in the fukst would he want to play with a guy who cant even play half the regular season while Lebron is playing 35 minutes a game?

It's amazing how 5 games changes people's opinions on you. Go back to 5 games ago, Wade looked like the Wade of old. He was averaging over 50%, and nearly 19/4/4 the whole time beforehand.
I'm not sure if his knee flared up, or if the Spurs defensive scheme shut him down or a little of both. He's not a max player anymore, but he still is a great player when healthy.

but he's getting paid like a dude who should be consistently getting 20+/5/5 plus elite defense

If Wade opts in for the next two years, I think his only option will be forced retirement in 2 years, maybe sign a vet's min in 2017 if some team is willing to take him but he's not a great shooter and a lot of his game relies on quickness.
Miami would be smart to ask him to take a pay cut but extend out that contract. Maybe 4 years $50M. Same with Bosh. If LeBron takes a paycut, that'll be the ultimate indication of Miami trying to stack the deck for this summer though.
The heat need bigs badly right now, and the bench will have to retool with no more Battier and potentially no more Birdman/Ray.
Will always be my guy but his best is in the distant past

That's part of the contract Wade and Riley agreed to. What's caused Wade the most problems regarding health? His knees right? When Riley signed this contract he knew Wade didn't have MCLs.
Is he worth it now? Hell no. Just saying he's still a great player. It's just the fact that he had 4 bad games out of 5 in the Finals, before those games he was great in the playoffs.

funny thing is wade is still the best sg this year .. because kobe is out ...
is he worth the max... no because he has 2 or 3 good years but he needs to rest on some games to make sure he is healthy come playoff time.

I thought this is what Spo did this year though. Didn't Wade only play like 60-something games to get ready for the playoffs? Did he just not last long enough? Because up until the Spurs series he was great. Then his game just fell apart against the Spurs.

Wade wont opt out. If he does, his ceiling is somewhere around $10 mil per. He cant play a full season and hes done as a game changing offensive player. His defense is average (due to him not trying) and his spotup shooting is below average. Dont pay him for his past accomplishments.

I have trouble seeing them signing him to a 4 or 5 year deal (how done will he be in 4 years? sheesh) that is worth more than he's owed over the next two.

The immediate flexibility gained will make the investment more than worth it. It'll be a nice little thank you/future retirement package for a legend of the franchise. Pat Riley and Micky Arison view Wade as family, and they should take care of him accordingly if he opts out to help the team.
And Wade is subjected to what is called the plus 36 rule, so he can only sign for 4 years anyway.
Something like a 4 years 60 million back loaded, 14-14-16-16. Bosh takes something within the same neighborhood, and Miami is in business. If LeBron is willing to shave a couple mill off the top, even better.
If comes down to this, if these guys want to continue to play together, and want a piece or two added, they're going to have to take cuts to make it work. The new CBA was a game changer.
