View Full Version : The 2014 NBA Finals reminded me EXACTLY of the 2004 NBA Finals

1. 2014 Spurs and 2004 Pistons similarities.
- Legendary head coach
-Insane depth. every Roster spot is a legit contributor.
-Lack of a 20+ PPG superstar.
-Elite defense

2. 2014 Heat and 2004 Lakers similarities
-Both teams at the end of their era of dominance.
-Both teams have a lot of big names, but only one legit star(Shaq and LeBron).
-Both teams have a HOF superstar player attempting to carry them. Shaq put big numbers and insane effeciency. LeBron put up big numbers and efficiency.
-Both teams have legit shit production aside from that one HOFer.
-Both teams have an extremely overrated 2nd star. Kobe Bryant who shot less than 40% vs the Pistons and Dwyane Wade who is a liability more than he is a positive.

3. The series wasn't close at all(5 games easy victory).

We shall see if this series holds the same weight as that series did which led to Shaq(lebron) being traded and a virtual resetting of the NBA.

This series was redemption for the 02 Kings too. Seeing team ball beat top heavy ball.. that's what should have happened in 02

Yes there was certainly questionable officiating in the 2002 WCF.

'04 Pistons didn't really have "Insane depth". They relied heavily on their starting 5.

The Lakers beat a better team than the Pistons or 14 Heat in the 2004 Spurs.

They lost to the Pistons because by the time they got to the finals it was a thin roster that was worn down. Malone was injured, Kobe and Shaq were out of shape.

If the Lakers played the Pistons in the 2nd round and the Spurs in the Finals they would have beat the Pistons and lost to the Spurs.

LOL at this fool saying Kobe wasn't a legit star in 04....he was out of shape from two offseason surgeries and flying from colorado on game days taking IV's and was still the main reason we even beat the Spurs.

The comparison is 2004 Finals to 2014 Finals. Not 2004 Lakers playoff run to 2014 Heat playoff run.

Kobe sucked vs the Pistons. He averaged like 21 PPG and shot below 40% from the field. Meanwhile Shaq averaged 26 PPG and 60% from the field.

Very comparable to the production of LeBron/Wade where LeBron was putting up numbers and noone else on the team did anything whatsoever.

You forgot another point for 2014 Heat and 2004 Lakers similarities: both are coached by hacks who got totally outcoached by the opposing coach.

You may have a point, both the best players (Shaq, LeBron) had efficient scoring, but both their demises were the result of SG's chucking them out of the series (Kirby, D-Finished)

besides the fact that the 2013 Heat beat the 2013 Spurs

and the Lakers weren't a championship team the year prior to 2004 right?

Lakers/Mavs series 2011
Telling ya. Maybe the Eastern Conference REALLY is THAT weak
