Which man had the better coaching season?

Pop - Coached a team with no superstars, no player played more than 30 mpg during the year to the best record in the league and dominated the back to back champs in the Finals.

Phil - Coached a team led by Michael Jordan to 72 wins.

I'll give it to Jackson. Best record overall when you account the regular season and playoffs combined as well.

Also ranked #1 offense, #1 in defense, #2 best SRS of all-time.

Pop is a better X and O's coach, Phil is a better motivator and leader.

Pop is a great coach at making adjustments, at taking good players and making them into great players , at weeding out bad attitude players and keeping his team focused.

Pjax is the ONLY coach I ever heard of that can make players whose attitude sucks, who refuse to get along, who are ball hogs , who slander their team mates in the press, who co0uld care less about their team mates and still, somehow, get them to win a championship. That is not a rare talent, that is a singular talent. He is the only Coach that can do that.

Eh. A ton of the "miracles" he worked with those types of players were overrated considering the talent level of those players. Helping MJ mature, preventing Shaq and Kobe from killing each other, keeping Rodman in check is all pretty impressive...but those are still 3 top 10 players all time and another HOFer.

The ego/attitude management skills from PJax is terrific, but the talent he had was also just absurd.

Pop's H2H record vs Phil: 1-4

He had HCA in three of the five series too.

55% of Phil Jackson coached teams won a championship, versus 28% for Popovich.

Pop > Phil.

Phil's a good coach but he always had a massive advantage in having the best player in the league for most of his title runs, Duncan hasn't been the best player in the league for like 6-7 years.

Phil had MJ, Shaq, Kobe, Pippen, Pau Gasol all in their primes.. Pop had manu, parker and duncan.. pretty huge disparity.

Lack of context.

- 2000; Tim Duncan was injured.
- 2001; only 15+ ppg Spurs (besides Duncan) Derek Anderson was injured.
- 2002; David Robinson was injured.
Especially in 2001 and 2002 the Spurs looked like they were contenders just because Tim Duncan was only 2nd to Shaq.

No point of bringing up 3peat seasons.

- 2008; despite being the defending-champs, the Spurs were really old besides the trio and the old ones produced nothing throughout the playoffs

What was it again?

Phil 3-peated three times. Pop is not even in the same class.

This. Pop is cool and all, but he's the most overrated coach in NBA history.

Where was the so-called GOAT coach the last 7 years?

So is Pat Riley overrated too? He didn't win jack shit in the 90's, not even when Jordan went on to play baseball.
