I have a soft spot for the 80s but I'd say that the 60s are probably the GOAT decade. Great and hugely influential music, movies, and art during that time period. Fashion was pretty great back then and the political/social atmosphere must have been intense. It was by far the most action packed decade we've had since WWII. Kennedy assassination, Civil Rights & MLK assassination, the beginning of the space race, etc.

Also, consumerism was new and fresh so it was an intensely debated topic. These days it is just accepted as part of life as we know it but back then more people were talking about the merit of consumerism, advertising, etc. I think it would have been an incredibly interesting time.

As much as I love/loved the old classics, the video game industry today is pretty unreal. I'm sure many will still say the 90's takes the cake though.

Gotta go with the 60's as the most influential as well. 70's, 80's, and 90's are up there in terms of movies (still gotta watch some more from earlier eras). 90's had classic video games, good hip hop (Wu Tang, Tupac, Biggie, Nas, etc.), Nickelodeon in its prime, and a competent president.

With music, I would go with the 70's (although the 2010's are off to a great start, might take that spot in a few years, IMO). Sports: 90's. Tech: (unfair) 00's, tech in the 10's is obviously more advanced but its gotten to the point where it consumes people's lives.

If I had to choose one to live in, it would be the 80's.

I'm a 90's guy too. It's where you had a good balance of simplicity, new age and modern.

1780s

Mozart was an established great and Beethoven was on the rise, setting the high bar for music as we know it, recorded(on paper) and in quality.

For real though, seems like when this debate pops up people only consider from the 60s to the present.

Well, modern medicine and standard of living post-WWII makes anything before 1950 look pretty shitty.

I would say the first decade of the existence of the Universe was the GOAT decade. Lotta shit happened real quick.

for the most part, everything gets better over time...technology, medicine, etc. The best decade so far is this one.

Oh music was better back then? We can still listen to all of that good stuff today if we want. Same with movies, games, etc.

Fashion&style: 30-40s Nothing beats suits, ties, and fedoras. Look at Army uniforms from all over too. Very fashionable period.

Music: 60s. No question. Had so much influence on today.

Film: 70s Capolla, Scorsese, Spielberg, Lucas, etc all took flight this decade

TV: 00s. Sopranos, Wire, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Netflix starting up, etc

Sports: 90s. New media coverage, new training techniques, and new ways of idolizing sports stars.

Technology: 00s Media convergence and integration plays a huge part in technology advancement

Politics: 60s. You read about this decade all the time

Social: 60s. Likewise w/ politics

Literature: 30s. Faulkner, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, poetry, etc all became prominent around this time.

Sports: 90s. New media coverage, new training techniques, and new ways of idolizing sports stars.

To me that turned out pretty bad. Go into the NBA forum. Every second thread is about rankings and legacies. Not about the sport but just about how the player some "fan" has emotionally invested themselves in is the best. It is to the point where people will criticise a player because they didn't win a finals series (diminishing the fact they managed to even get there) or because another player on the team hit a shot and "bailed them out." For the casual fan basketball has been reduced to jerseys, highlight reels, and box scores.

Well of course, but we're judging it based on when the music/movies were actually made. 70's had Godfather I and II, Jaws, Star Wars, Apocalypse Now, Taxi Driver, Alien, Rocky, A Clockwork Orange, Dirty Harry.....
