Would you offer this guy a max contract?
No.

Elite 3rd option. Not a second option. Nowhere near a first.

Lol 2/5 jk jk

Due Leonard is a first option anywhere else. Spurs is a system, if he went to another team he could of put up some numbers. We dont even make plays like that for him, and he still gettin his buckets.
Dude is top 3 perimeter defender in the league
great shooter and cutter to the basket.
HE could easily put up

20/10 on another team. Probably one of the best rebounders at his position. IF he can create plays for others better and attack a little more when trying to score he will be top 10 player in the nba

Im so nba'd out
06-16-2014, 11:24 AM
For all we know the system is holding him back like jordan in nort:confusedshrug: h carolina

Plus he plays both sides of the ball hard for all i know if he only played offense like harden he would avg 28 who knows.People get tired faster from playing both sides of the ball if he only played one he would have way more energy like melo/harden

Was listening to the radio this morning on my way to work, one guy quoted Coach Pop saying that not one play was drawn up for Kawhi, but rather letting his create plays organically.

Let that sink in... and let that also give you Bran* stans some insight as to how badly you got fvcking destroyed.

Best player on the winning team, and there hasn't been a true TEAM like this win a championship in quite a while. He had some of the best games of the series overall, while defending Lebron and Wade the whole time. He deserves it, stfu if you think otherwise.

WTF does any of that have to do with being a finals MVP?

Frozen1

System product.

Would suck as a first option on another team. Easy to put numbers when at least 10 players on your team are real offensive threats.

Good for him he fits in the spurs.

Exactly

Who gives a damn if he's worthy of a minimum or max salary. It could have been Matt Bonner who won it for eff sakes. The fact of the matter is, the deserving player took home the hardware. Talk about grasping at straws. You hit puberty yet son?

He's, what, 22 or 23 years-old and was the youngest to win the Finals MVP in 15 years (23 y/o Duncan in '99). People will remember this Spurs team for their collective efforts just like the 04 Pistons. They won't really talk much about his F-MVP. People barely talk about Billups F-MVP.

Obviously, people will factor Duncan's 5th ring for Duncan's legacy but that's another topic.

Leonard has many, many years left to evolve into an all-star, and maybe a star. He's already being labeled as the future franchise player for SAS. Getting a F-MVP this early should help his accolades out.

Dude deserves it every bit. I'm really happy for him. Also notice how the rest of the Spurs team embraced his MVP award. It's amazing to see a whole team respect each other so much.

tim duncan is only getting paid 10 million a year, would it be better if he won it? ish logic, never pans out.

and also max contract entails he should play that way for the regular season and playoffs for a few years. The finals mvp is based on how you play in the finals.

Seriously, Kawhi is fun to watch. I'm starting to like this guy's game. Dude's a fckin terminator. Shows no emotion, doesn't talk that much but gets the job done. He let his game speak for himself. He absolutely deserve the FMVP. :applause:

The worst (or least deserving) FMVP's were

White in '76
Magic in '80
Worthy in '88

For everyone who thinks Iggy was undeserving, those 3 imo were all worse selections

Iggy wasn't undeserving. The other stars just weren't consistent enough every game. Plus, Iggy had some big moments which stood out on the biggest stage.

2007 and 2014 Spurs. The best spurs player in the entire playoffs was easily Tim Duncan. In both finals where the Spurs won easily, another player played out of their minds to win the "Finals" mvp. But the more competitive series had Tim Duncan as their most consistent and reliant player and i would expect the same in the Finals if the series where more competitive.

Magic put to a 22-11-9-3 series on a .632 TS%. And in the clinching game, on the road, he hung a 42-15-7 (on 14-23 and 14-14)...all while KAJ watched the game from his couch.

As for other candidates... Willis Reed in '70 was a complete joke. He contributed in the first four games (and the series was tied 2-2), and was a non-factor in the last three.

Magic had that legendary Game 6 without Kareem, but a single game shouldn't determine who wins FMVP.

1980 Finals
Kareem: 33/14/3/1/5 on 55%
Magic: 22/11/9/3/1 on 57%

The 5 games Kareem did play, he was better than Magic in at least 4 of them, and dropped 40/15 on Philly in a crucial Game 5 that the Lakers only won by 5 points. That's a much bigger travesty imo than Reed winning in '70, who I think was deserving of FMVP that series

What is often overlooked in that '80 Finals series, was the play of the Sixers centers, Darryl Dawkins, and Caldwell Jones (albeit, he did play some PF.) In the first five games, those two combined to average 31.0 ppg, 15.3 rpg, and shoot .500 from the floor. In the last game, and sans KAJ, they combined to score 20 points, with 10 rebounds, and .667 (8-12) from the floor. BTW, Magic outrebounded those two COMBINED, 15-10, in the clinching game six win.

In fact, the Lakers played their best game of the entire series in that game six. Why? Because Magic propelled their running game, and their 123 points were easily the most of the series by either team (LA's 111 in game three was the next highest scoring game.)

A one-legged Wilt basically battled a much healthier Reed to a draw in the first four games of the '70 Finals. And the series was tied 2-2.

In the last three games of the Finals, a one-legged Wilt outscored a one-legged Reed, 88-10; outrebounded him, 71-3; and outshot him from the floor, 39-55 to 4-10 (.709 to .400.)

I'd hardly consider Wilt playing Reed to a draw when through the first 4 games Reed was outscoring Wilt 32-19. And posting their total stats from the last 3 games is being disingenuous considering Reed missed Game 6 while Wilt dropped 45/27 on his backup, so of course the numbers are going to be heavily skewed towards Wilt.

Wilt put up nice numbers in Games 5, but with Reed out and a chance to take a 3-2 lead back to L.A. he scored just 4 points in the second half. And in Game 7, Reed did a great defensive job on Wilt in the decisive first half, as evidenced in this video

Reed "won" games 1 and 3.

Chamberlain outplayed Reed in games 2 and 4.

And you forgot some other numbers, as well. In those four games, Chamberlain outshot Reed from the floor by a .544 to .491, and outrebounded him by a 24.8 to 15.0 rpg margin.

And, again, that was a one-legged Wilt going up against a relatively healthy Reed. Incidently, in their two H2H's in the previous season, a healthy Chamberlain outscored Reed, per game, 28.0 to 22.0 ppg; outrebounded Reed, per game, 22.0 rpg 9.5 rpg; and outshot Reed by a .688 to .459 margin.

Oh, and in that game seven, Reed had swarming help throughout the first half, as well as committing four PFs while trying to defend Wilt. Chamberlain went 5-10 from the floor in the first half, with 12 rebounds, and 5-6 in the second half, with 12 rebounds.

Incidently, in that game five, NY Times writer Leonard Koppett was on record as saying that the refs basically handed the second half of that game to the Knicks. Chamberlain only took three shots, and West only two, in that second half.

Leonard excelled at both ends of the court - defending the best player in the game. Parker in 07 defended a hobbled Eric Snow and rookie Daniel Gibson.
