Oh, don't get me wrong, they were no all-time great team, but even with depleted depth IMO they weren't levels below 07. They were definitely worse, but Timmy wasn't far removed from his prime, and I think they were still a legitimate conference finalist.

And it hurts a top heavy team more when something like that happens.

They were relying on Barry and Finley playing like 40 minutes per game.

Which would have been workable if Manu was himself, but he was hurt.

No Manu is better than an injured Manu. Biggest difference between '07 and '08 Spurs is Manu's health. He's always been the 2nd most impactful player for the Spurs during the mid 2000s. Having him hobbled and giving those possessions to Tony Parker instead is never a good thing.
