He was not only one of the best hitters I have ever seen play the game, but also a great human being.

It sucks because his death was avoidable...seemed to get the cancer from chewing tobacco.
I watched the video, I didn't realize he was drafted by the Clippers. And he couldn't even palm the basketball.

Damn! Gwynn was a menace at the plate. Was one of those names I always heard and watched as a kid.
Rest Peacefully TG...

I thought for certain it was his weight that killed him until i read the cause of death. He had ballooned after he retired. Still sux though.
I used to watch a lot of Padres games when i lived out there. Easy going dude in an easy going environment. He had a .429 career batting average against Greg Maddux. :pimp:

Was one of the best hitters I ever saw early on in my life. Dude never struck out :applause:

I read it is roughly 50% less today vs. 90s
League has taken some measures to keep it down, players aren't aloud to have a round tin on them while playing, or be chewing while doing an interview, but they can still chew while they play if they want.

"Oh I don't smoke, I just chew dip. Not as bad at all."
Lesson to be learned there, I think.
Probably the best hitter of my era of baseball fandom as I wasn't quite old enough to see Wade Boggs in his prime. If your swing was screwed up, watch some Gwynn tape and fix that shit up.
RIP Tony :(

At my job there are some guys that chew. They carry those disgusting spit bottles.

Do people actually say this?
This must just be a wet dream for the anti-tobacco crowd. It's a damn shame what happened to him, but at the end of the day these are grown men. If they want to chew...chew on.:confusedshrug:

patches were out when he played, right? so i guess it was more than just a nicotine buzz he was looking for. yet if he wanted something to chew on, he could have just done bubblegum like so many other players.
maybe it's an example of a peer thing which quickly became an addition. i mean, when you're a rookie trying to become permanent in MLB and lots of the others around you are chawing... you know?

Yes, many people I know in Wisconsin feel it's not as bad as smoking.
