a ploy to take care of himself and his boys?
Kerr and Fisher are now two of the highest paid coaches in the league and Phil cashed out at 10M a year :oldlol:
He even told Melo to go to LA :lol

this is the dreaded Mike Holmgren scenario that i was concerned about.
Hire past coach with past coaching success as team "president" with limited FO experience.
Pay said guy tons of money.
Said guy hires his friends that are unqualified for huge money.
Franchise stays a mess.
Said guy gets removed and team is back to square one again.

So you bored out-of-your skulls retards are gonna roll with this statement? You don't know jack shit about PJ if you do.
But say what you want - it doesn't hold anything until a year from now. Bunch of frustrated losers posting bullshit. Go outside, get laid or do something else. :facepalm

So he struck out with Steve Kerr, He's going to strike out with Melo, and he hires a coach with 0 coaching experience and pays him 25 million dollars.
Maybe everything will work out, but so far he hasn't done the Knicks any favors.
Fish may turn out to be an amazing coach. Melo leaving might be the best thing to happen to the Knicks. Nobody knows yet. But you can't say with a straight face that Pjax's presence has inspired a newfound confidence in the Knicks.

I agree with you on all your points and I'm an optmistic Knicks Fan. I'm not sure how this will all turn out. But he did say one thing which at first I wasn't feeling but warmed up to.
If Melo Leaves we will be fine or If Melo stays we will be fine. For some reason I'm leaning towards the whole reboot of the Knicks instead of keeping Melo right now. But in the end who knows really?

However the Knicks fan felt when the team announced Phil Jackson's hire
they should still feel that way.
No?
Phil wanted a coach he could use a proxy to teach the players things and mold the team. He wants to be able to, at any time walk onto the court and give his philosophy and his teaching without the person feeling threatened, and without the person pushing off for their own philosophy. That's his plan. This plan doesn't work with Mark Jackson, who as good a coach as he seemed was threatened by everyone. This doesn't work with almost every veteran coach, unless it was someone who worked in the triangle.
Hiring people you worked with and know are good is normal. For some of you it's strange because you've either never had real jobs (wanna be actor boy) or are still teens (OP). But it's not a bad plan at all.

I can say with a straight face that PJ's presence has inspired confidence with ME.
1.) Showed me that Dolan is FINALLY learning not to meddle. He's left his Ranger team in the care of Glen Sather, and they've been consistently good.
2.) Is willing to install some DIRECTION into a wasted team that has been all over the map regarding playing style.
3.) Has confidence in himself and a decent winning percentage in his history. When that spotty-faced Grunwald got Bargs, I was mightily pissed. Also overpaid Novak and Camby.
4.) I can't see any good player being afraid to sign on to the club with PJ at the helm. He's held in reverence.
I just get a little tired of bored posters trying to rate what he's done in about 11 weeks time in a weak attempt to troll Knick fans. It's the non-fans who have no confidence in my team... last year was atrocious, but we were contenders the season before until injuries befell all the ancient players Grunwald signed. Ask the Nets how that's working out. IMO, hiring PJ was the best thing to happen to the team since Donnie Walsh accepted the job and was railroaded out of town. I admit the owner has a track record of being a dumbass regarding hoop - he admitted it himself at the conference. But I'm sure I'm not the only NY fan who is excited about possibilities after all the bullshit we suffered this past season. We shall see. Now............... can we all be a little patient?

i agree with you about patience.. We have to wait and see and that's why i said maybe Fish getting the job and Melo leaving is going to work out great for the Knicks. i'm not trying to troll knicks fans or anything.
My pessimism on these types of hires comes from my Mike Holmgren experience with the Browns.
You just gotta hope that Phil actually cares about the Knicks' future and isn't looking for a last pay day and/or a bandaid job on the roster.

It certainly hasn't been a good start.
Phil needs to dump all the contracts he can, tank next year, then gear up for free agency in 2016. He's got the allure of NYC and a very rich owner to work with, just don't make the Nets' mistake and get trigger happy and sign sub-par players for way too much. Wait for the big fish.

Except "Big Fish" arent going to go there if the team isnt any good. The best you can hope for is another Amare-Melo combination. In other words, two role players who get 'star' media hype.
Guys trying to build an alltime legacy like Bran or Durant arent heading to a Knick team with no assets except maybe a draft prospect or two. The thought that youre gonna get a repeat of the Decision where an all time elite player AND two other all stars hook up again on one team is a long shot at best, and most likely pure fantasy.
Knicks need to worry about building a good foundation and acquiring some assets with solid value. They need to do what the Suns and Blazers have done, not try and just perpetually wipe their books clean thinking any minute now a cavalcade of superstars is going to beat down the gates to be a part of the Knicks organization just because "Its new york!!! Its the MECCCAAaa!!!!!!"

I somewhat agree with you. New York sells it self. Not even counting endorsment deals with being in the area.
We've been doing a rebuild on the fly since the Early Ewing days. More and More I come to think of it I wouldn't mind a complete rebuild. Get what we can get for Melo in regards to picks.
2015 Free agent class is pretty nice. I personally would love to see Aldrige in NY uniform but he's got a good think with Lillard.
Like I said before let's see what PJax can do. I have faith for now.
For me I would rather us take our time to rebuild.

Nah, the Knicks sell themselves. It didn't work with Melo and STAT, no, but a big part of that is because Amare's body broke down essentially as soon as he got there. We never got to see a prime Melo and Stoudemire together.
They missed out on LeBron, but that can probably be attributed to having a shitty FO as much as anything, Pat Riley just made it happen in Miami.
Maybe they don't get Durant, but they will be on the short list of destinations for guys like Love, Westbrook, Davis, etc... whenever they hit free agency.
I hate most of the Knicks fans on here as much as anybody, but it's Madison Square Garden, where would you rather play?

I understand why Phil wanted Fisher, it makes sense. Could pay off or could end up completely falling apart. Stupid thread obviously. Jackson wouldn't have came back and risked his legacy just for the cash. What I'd worry about is his role potentially being to big with the players that it underminds Fisher who might eventually care, or confuse the players. It's an entirely different animal without the personal he's use too. We have no way of knowing but if it turns out to be a puppet situation that could end badly, or maybe not. Maybe he doesn't take as large of a role as some of us think and he's Fisher as great coach. Which is what we've heard forever.
Not everybody is butthurt about the Knicks. Why would people be? I actually think it's pretty interesting topic without the agenda/trolling. This could end up being a huge part of an already legendary career. Turning around the Knicks without all the HOF talent would be huge :confusedshrug: ..

I dunno about that. A questionable time as team president isn't going to tarnish what he did with MJ and Kobe.
I agree that nobody is butthurt about the knicks and Phil Jackson going there is a huge story.
Everything he does is going to be looked at under a microscope because 1. It's NY, and 2. its Phil Jackson. There is some deserved criticism IMO because everybody was saying how Phil is going to attract all this talent and great people, and that just hasn't been the case whatsoever. It's still early in his tenure and everything can work out fine, but let's not all act like Fish was Jackson's primary target and plan all along.

Indeed, I don't think anyone is butthurt about the Knicks.
But Jackson needs to at least acquire 1 HOF talent and surround him with his traditional triangle system. It could work, but needs to take time first.

Yeah your right but there's always been whispers about him having boatloads of talent everywhere he went. I doubt a guy like Jackson just takes a job to completely mail it in. Maybe I'm wrong but I feel like he missed ball and probably see's this a big challenge.
IMO which is based off nothing but baseless speculation I think he wanted somebody he'd be allowed to share his voice with, somebody he'd have more control over. Fisher somebody he probably helped mentor, a rookie headcoach could have been a prime target. Somebody he'd could say hey this is how were building things. So maybe he did get one of his primary targets. I agree with the talent thing so far, that could change in a couple months tho.
Which is why I'd never want to work/hire somebody I had history with unless I had too. If I'm Fisher I put my dues in and get my own team. I'm a big believer of separating person relationships and work. Not sure how close Phil/Jackson are but gotta be some kinda bias between them. If Fisher doesn't translate wonder how fast Jackson axes somebody he knows like that.
