Van Persie takes it for the moment imo.
Doesn't look that difficult but it is, moreso than Cahill's. It's awesome.

RvP or Cahill. Too close for me call.

RVP or Cahill, you can make an argument for either.
And Chile's first goal against Spain was amazing too.

Wish Pirlo's free-kick went in, would have been jizzing still.

i would say cahill 1st, RVP 2nd, messi 3rd

Cahill's goal was undoubtedly the best goal of the WC so far, and will more than likely remain that way.

Getting a lob from just about halfway, coming from behind you, striking it with your weak foot, flush, and nailing it through the roof of the goal is pure class. RVP's goal is nice in terms of instinct and what not, but this goal is just pure brilliance.

Dempsey doesn't belong in this thread. His goal was good, please don't get me wrong, but it doesn't compare to Cahill's or Van Persie's goals. Hell, I'd also mention Robben when he ****ed with Casillas :oldlol:

Jermaine Jones goal was awesome.

But since, the thread is entitled World Cup Goal of the tournament...that goal is not even top 5.

1. Tim Cahill volley v the Netherlands
2. Van Persie Header
3. Messi late 90th minute goal
4. Robben destroying one of the fastest Centre Backs in the world Sergio Ramos and breaking the top sprint speed ever recorded by Fifa.
5. Marchisio's goal because of Pirlo mastermind

I am not even biased, but , two of the top 5 goals came from the same game.

Not the best goal of the tournament but one that I thought was impressive was from Granit Xhaka. The game was already lost but it was still an impressive volley.

I'm Italian so the Pirlo dummy play was extra sweet for me to watch but I actually think the Jones goal might be more impressive. Such a cracker...

You can't rate a header over a volley coming from behind you while being delivered from the half way line. It's so much harder to control the volley, and not to mention on your wrong foot. I just don't see it.

RvP's header needed much more control and coordination than Cahill's volley.
It is far more difficult to control the direction and power of a header rather than a volley, considering they were delivered from similar distances and the header came while diving.
Add that RvP never looked at Casillas while the ball was coming, so it's a big plus for the peripheral view/instinctive feeling on Iker's position.

PS Most modern players don't have a weak foot. Sure there is a favourite one, but had Cahill's left foot really been weak, he'd have never even tried that.
