Less with more - and he does. Pop also only coaches certain personalities, notably guys who are quiet and laid back.

Larry Brown (Pop's mentor) and Phil Jackson are unique in the sense they've gotten some of the biggest egos and worst personalities to "buy in"

I think when he says "less than more" he means he keeps the program/system simple.. doesn't fluff it up with nonsense but they execute what they do do perfectly both on the court and in the front office

He sitll holds Phil in high regards (in terms of his coaching skills, anyway).


In his new book in his dream game, he puts PJ as one of the coaches for the EAst.

I would say that when you compare the likes of George Karl/Larry Brown/Pop. who probably all knows one another, and have a great friendship as well as mutual respect for one another.

In teaching/preaching basketball, Pop easily has had the most success out of the three at the professional level. Larry Brown was able to win at different levels of the game. George Karl probably makes basketball the most "fun" for his players by trying to continuous emphasize on some of the most simple aspects of the game.

I think Jerry West is complimenting Pop, because of his passion/ability to get up and do the same thing over and over again for such a long period of time.



Some people are only interested in working with players that they deemed to be "worthy" of their time. But when it comes to the game of basketball.

That statement does not apply to Greg Popovich
