Gerrard did a stupid backpass vs France in 2004 that lost them the game
Gerrard slipped and fell choking away Liverpools first title in 20 years in 2014.
Gerrard made a perfect header to put Suarez through on goal in 2014.
Is Steven Gerrard the worst captain in England history?
Captains are supposed to help their team win, not sabotage their team and make them lose.

England doesn't have enough skill or speed to compete against teams like Italy and Uruguay. They looked clunky and amateurish versus both, maybe against Costa Rica the game will be at a pace they can handle.

Costa Rica has one of the fastest players in the world in Joel Campbell.

And your point? Theyre a third tier team, Uruguay and Italy are first tier. Costa Rica did beat Uruguay but if they played ten times Uruguay would win 8.

Was trying to pinpoint a word to describe England...clunky is a good one. Uninspiring was my choice.
Should've included Becks on the squad.

You're simply going off of reputation here. Costa Rica is better than you think.

Was it not until 2010 when he was rewarded captaincy? Either way, they've been pretty woeful during his era...

My point is Costa rica and faster and more skilled than people give them credit for, and they're very solid defensively. I'm not sure I would take any GK in the WC over Keylor Navas.
England has enough speed and skill to get out the group stage, but their coach is probably one of the worst out of all teams participating.

Bryan Ruiz, Joel Campbell and Bolanos are more technical then any English player. Celso Borges is as good as any English midfielder.
Plus, Campbell is out to prove something and the game is played in jungle climate which England can't handle-England will be lucky to beat Costa Rica. Don't see how they'd be able to stop Campbell.
Gerrard needs to be dropped, Barkley needs to start.
Wilshere/Ox is a decent midfield for the future with Wilshere in a deeplying holding roll and Barkley as a #10. Sooner England drops Rooney and Gerrard the better. Also they need someone to replace the scrub Joe Hart, maybe Butland has it in him.
People need to stop underrating Costa Rica. They are not a one man team who got lucky vs Uruguay. They are a team built for this tournament. Navas is one of the best keepers in the tournament as well, much better then the scrub Hart.
Stop underrating the effects of weather Euros, already it seems to be proven your boys cant handle it. The fact a Euro team never won a world cup on American soil also proves it.

Also you should see this guys pregame interviews and promos. He seemingly has no selff belief nor belief in his team to win. No wonder England always loses, they go into tournaments with their captain all mopey thinking he's already beaten.
The sooner England drops this loser generation the better. You dont want their loser attitudes rubbing off on the youngsters.

Meh, kinda different roles. Scholes was a lot more defensive minded, he was never asked to carry the offense as playmaker like the others.

England didnt lose because of Gerrard, they lost because their coach sucks.
he should have played like that
Gerrard Wilshere
Barkley Rooney Sterling
Sturridge
that is clearly the best formation but that idiot coach wanted to play defensively or whatever.
that being said i always felt that prime Lamps>prime Gerrard:confusedshrug:
