View Full Version : people sleeping on Julius Randle?
Dude is a guaranteed 20 and 10 guy like Z-BO or Boozer. He is right there with Jabari as the safest pick in the draft. Lakers should just stand pat and take him at seven instead of trying to outsmart themselves.
Not sure how a top 10 pick is slept on....

What's his wingspan? I keep hearing he has short arms.

7-0. Do-able. Not very good.
8-9.5 reach. Which is pretty bad. For comparison, Matt Bonner has a 8-9.5 reach. Shaun Livingston does. Iguodala does. Except only one of those are power forwards.
Cody Zeller measured 8-10 last year.

He has handles and great mobility for his size though.

For a wing.
Wingspan is overrated, anyway, unless you have one that's freakish like Rondo or Shaq. Or if you have dinosaur arms.
His reach is probably going to hurt him defensively in the NBA.

You could say that about most top 10 picks. They're mostly freshmans who haven't even developed.

Randle is one of the top names that people are completely torn on, I hear people saying he's the most NBA ready out of everyone including Parker then turn around and someone else is saying he'll be a complete bust. Don't really know what to make of it, he looked solid at Kentucky with a play style that usually translates to the league well

He could still be a star, but his floor is alarmingly low.

I think the best NBA comparison I've heard of him is David Lee. Can put the ball in the hoop, will have a productive career.

I don't think Randle will ever pass the ball like David Lee can

You're right about that, Randle is a more explosive athlete though.
I'm kind of torn on Randle as well, I loved him at UK, I think he's got a great mindset, just needs to be in the right situation. If the 6ers could get him with their second pick I think that would be good for him.

I think Randle will be underwhelming. Nothing special. Guys drafted after him will have much better careers. He could push around tiny college players, but he won't be able to do that in the pros. PF's in the NBA will abuse him..and I'm not even talking about the top PF's.
no pun intended

I wouldn't mind the Lakers taking Randle. He has a wonderful attitude.

if this was last year's draft randle could have gone 1st .... the thing abour randle is do you see him as your franchise player in the future if yes then it maybe a reach .. but he will have a good nba career ... kid is still quite a beast.

I see a lil Chris Webber in him ala Kings early 2000s.

yeah similar to davis and cousins before him.
looked like he had some faceup game in high school, then gets to kentucky and just plays exclusively in the paint, not being asked to use any of his guard skills.
hopefully those skills translate to the nba like they did for demarcus and davis
he is very left hand dominant though, he needs to put a lot of work in to improve his off hand. nba defenses will exploit that weakness far more than college defenses did.

I think there's alot of confusion around him because he's going to be undersized in the nba, and undersized players tend to be terrible on defense.
Besides Paul Milsap theres only a hand full of undersized PFs who are legitimately good in this league. Which is why I was PISSED when the Cavs took an undersized Pf Anthony freakun Bennett in last years draft!

Randle is also a short PF, so he's going to struggle defensively.

He strikes me as a guy who won't win you games, but won't lose you any. he will average a double double but it won't be a big impact.

Meh, has below average length, and average athleticism
He's basically a slow SF who's forced to play PF
His rookie stats will be 11/8
