View Full Version : Marcus Smart wasting no time being an arsehole

"I think I will fit in well," Smart said at last month's NBA Combine in Chicago. "You know the Sixers are slacking in some areas and the point guard role is one of them."
"They are looking for that type of leadership and toughness that will come in and handle it and take control of it." link (http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/sixers/20140621_Marcus_Smart_could_be_on_Sixers__draft_ra dar.html)

I'll never understand why some people think he has 'leadership' or 'good intangibles'. He 'led' his team nowhere, and he attacked a freaking FAN.
Knucklehead from day one, and potential locker room cancer.

I think he's just unintelligent and anti-social. He had bad acne the last time I saw him, so that plays a bigger role than you think. I had bad acne and now have acne scarring, and it played a big role in stunting my social skills.

So his acne caused him to talk shit on MCW? Ok bud. This is a guy who can't shoot and isn't a good passer yet somehow wants to dog out MCW? What a moron.

Yes, possibly.
Horrendous acne makes you disassociate and not consider everything when you are in a social setting. You are so far gone self-esteem and comfort wise, you say things you regret because your mind is full of thoughts about your acne and what everyone is thinking of your looks.

Low IQ =/= low basketball IQ. See Kevin Garnett, a genius on the court and... well, let's just say slightly less of a genius off it. Smart's assist/turnover ratio is better than some guards who are lauded for their bball IQ, he racks up steals.
And I don't see the evidence of low IQ anyway, he's quite articulate in fact.

Intelligence is not the same thing as self control/wisdom. Plenty of high IQ bankers have about as much self-control as a bonobo. High IQ NBA players, too, when they reach certain altitudes.
Yeah, I saw the incident. It reminded me of Ron Artest at his worst. But here's the thing: Ron Artest is a fantastic player, and I would not hesitate one second drafting him, or Dennis Rodman, or Lance Stephenson, at a spot that matches their production on the court.

I'm just curious how you lump self control/wisdom as the same thing. I was unaware they were the same thing. So next time a wise old man tells me something I can call him a self controlled old man and it'll be the same thing?
BoutPractice
06-21-2014, 06:51 PM
I did lump them together but they're not the same thing. If we're going to get philosophical (and stray from the topic of Marcus Smart), wisdom does have something to do with knowing how to control your emotions, imo. But while wise people typically know how to control themselves, not all who know how to control themselves are wise.
Anyway. All I'm saying is that you can be intelligent, and still succumb to anger, lust, etc., and do regrettable things. Doing those things is not a proof of stupidity in and of itself.

Yeah having a ROY PG average 17/6/6/2 is really lacking in the PG department.
You can always counter that by simply showing the Sixers were a...terrible team. And since when were stats not inflated in situations like the ones Sixers presented? Sixers had no alternatives at PG but MCW. So the minutes where there to produce by default. His range still is shaky, his jumper once had some fans saying "Ha who said he couldn't shoot" to "Wow :facepalm ". So in short there are some people that aren't quite sold on MCW at PG. And enough to side with trading MCW in that rumored deal with the Lakers (which I dont support).
Smart is pretty confident in himself. His statements pretty much say what some fans think, they aren't sold on him despite the stats/ROY accolade when in reality it was a weak rookie class to begin with.
That said, I dont want Marcus Smart here. I love his passion, energy and I think he would be a great leader at the next level. But as far as being a PG goes? Dude has a ways to go there. And while MCW shooting can get criticized Marcus Smart shooting is no better.

I just don't think that highly of Stephenson. I just don't. Guy is a role player with handles with the ego of a top 5 player and ball IQ of a D-Leaguer.
His antics this ECF confirm this. And now the market will dictate he receive a near max contract? Yeah I'll pass.
I rather Oladipo with his broke ass jumper on my bench than Lance Stephenson. That's just preference.

MCW may have a long way to go but Smart has an even longer way to go. Smart is a hard worker, he hustles and he plays D. That's it. He's on the shorter side, can't shoot, is an ok passer and dribbler. I am not interested in him in any way either.

Yeah I want no parts of Smart. I'm cool with MCW who has size. I hope he hit the weight room during his time off so he can get bigger/stronger. Would go a long way attacking the rim and finishing. Plus help post up PGs more effectively.

He's right though. Mcw is overrated. Philly will continue to suck if they plan to have mcw be the future pg of their team. Im not saying mcw sucks, he is just not that special like the majority thinks.

I dunno how overrated MCW is but the Sixers won't suck with him as their future PG. They will suck if he's the team's best player but he won't be soon. I don't think the majority thinks he's special. What happened is that he was a surprise rookie in a very weak draft class who was then asked to do way too much for his team as a rookie. As they begin to add players and he continues to get better he'll be more impactful. He will look much move effective and the game will be easier for him when he has some talent aroind him. He will not be a perennial all star but he will be a very solid PG who presents matchup problems on both ends of the floor.
