the man is one of the greatest defenders of all time, he's been on an elite level for YEARS... honestly if he plays the whole season next year he should a top five dpoy candidate. thats the level he's on.

The stronger you are (granted if you are already a great defensive minded player willing to put forward effort and energy on that end) the better hand checking will benefit you. Hand checking allows you to use your physical upper body strength against a driving perimeter player or post player. You can apply pressure than take it away to throw players off balance, or apply constant pressure to wear an opponent out, or try to force them into certain positions. In theory hand checking reduces league-wide field goal percentage because offensive players have less of an opportunity/freedom to dribble around unmolested to take an "ideal" shot or get to an "ideal" spot. Players/the league tends to take less shots, but more accurate shots when hand checking is not allowed. So a lower pace, but at a higher rate of shooting success is the result. The league actually made a public statement about this when they eliminated the rule that this was part of their objective.

The guy is a joy to watch 82+ times a year. Whenever he's on the court I don't and don't want to take my eyes off of him.

You could slap their hand away too, so it wasn't that beneficial except for a few guys who were really masters of it. Scoring went down 5 ppg the year they outlawed it.

Leonard won the title even without it, so I don't see the point in op
