LeBron was just coming off of an MVP season. 30 ppg, 8.6 apg, 7 rpg. He was the best player in the NBA at the time.

They also got Chris Bosh. A guy who some people said was the best PF in 2010. He was a superstar that year. Averaged 24 points and 10 rebounds a game. That's what Miami added. A lot of talent.

Meanwhile, the Lakers got a VERY dominant player in Shaquille O'Neal. He put up 26 and 11 his last year in Orlando. Lakers also got Kobe Bryant. But at that time, nobody thought he was gonna be THIS good.

I think Heat had the better offseason. They got the best player in the game at the time and a superstar power forward. They made an NBA 2k type of team.

Lakers got Kobe, Shaq & Fisher which brought them 5 rings and 7 finals

Heat got 2 rings in 4 finals

Lakers easily

I didn't realize they picked up Shaq and Kobe in the same offseason.

Tough to beat that.

Many thought the Lakers were utterly clueless trading Vlade for a #13 pick then taking a high school kid :lol

Lakers lost a good player (Vlade) when the Heat did not. Tough question.

Heat got an immediate return but the Lakers will probably get more value out of it (Kobe's entire career vs 4 straight Finals). Arguably, even if the big 3 leave, the Heat have 10 years to catch up on titles and that would be equal to Kobe's entire run with the organisation.

Crazy to think that Shaq wasn't even the "top prize" of this free agency. Michael Jordan almost went to his hometown Knicks. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. Besides the 99 finals, being a Knicks fan has been a pretty painful process over the past 20 years or so
