View Full Version : Is LeBron's Game 4 of the 2011 Finals the worst single game performance of all time?

And I'm referring to a superstar, best in the league type of player. Out of any game I can think of, this one has all the ingredients to be the worst playoff game by a superstar player in NBA history

1. LeBron scored 8, EIGHT god damn points on 3/11 shooting in a Finals game that was eventually decided by just 3 points
2. LeBron got great efforts from his teammates. Wade put up 32 on a sensational 65% from the field, while Bosh contributed 24 as well. The other members of the Big 3 both had great games, yet the Heat STILL lost
3. With the Heat up 2-1 and having HCA for games 6-7, a win here all but ends the series. There's not a chance in the world the Mavs are winning games 6-7 in Miami. A win in game 4 and the Heat basically do wrap up the series
4. In the 4th quarter of a close game that would have all but won the championship, LeBron has just two boards, no assists, two turnovers, and takes ONE shot, scoring no points in the 4th, while Jason Terry, who LeBron was guarding iirc, scores 10 points in the 4th to help Dallas win the game

In a Finals game in the prime of his career, LeBron was awful and ineffective in every way possible, and honestly singlehandedly cost the Heat a win in Game 4, a series Miami would eventually lose. My question is, can anyone name a worse performance by a superstar player in playoff history that tops this one?

He would've scored 0 if it was ok to outright tank. There was no way he was letting Wade win FMVP that year. It was better for him to lose the series than be seen as a beta that joined an alpha's team to chase rings.

John Stark's 2-18 shooting in game 7 of the finals might have been worse.

Ray Allen's 0-13 in the finals was pretty bad too.

Tony Parker once went 1-12 in a finals game that the Spurs lost by 1.

Kobe's 4-20 in game 5 of the finals against Indiana certainly wasn't pretty either.

Still, Lebron might take this one, not because he was the worst, but because he was supposed to be the best, and fell so far short

Making negative threads about Lebron and calling him a mental midget and yada yada, all because they are scared he is going to leave. These fools are trying to trick themselves into believing he sucks so that if he does leave it won't hurt as much because he had an 8 point Finals game 3 years ago. :facepalm This is honestly embarrassing.

Bird w B2B 8pt games in the 81 Finals with Boston leading the series 2-0

Boston was not up 2-0 in that series. It was 1-1 before game 3. Bird only had 8 pts but pulled down 13 rebounds that game and dished for 10 assists and was a big reason Celtics won game 3. His game 4 was only 8 pts but again had 7 assists & I think 12 rebounds. He more than made up for a poor game 4 with his game 6 of that series = 27 pts and 13 rebounds and just killed Houston in the 4th qtr with clutch baskets and passes. His game 1 and game 2 and game 6 should have earned the FMVP - but people always focus on the low scoring games and missed his overall play.

Bird w B2B 8pt games in the 81 Finals with Boston leading the series 2-0

Actually it was 1-1 right before, oh and.......

-He was 24 and in his 2nd year, so not at his very best or that close
(I'd still take his performance over LeBron's 2011 when LBJ was already at his best, let alone LeBron's 2007 peformance :oldlol:)

-He also averaged 12.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists, for those two games; and he was easily the best playmaker in the series, getting most attention and getting everyone, especially Cornbread, easy baskets, plus almost outrebounded prime Moses, and played some really good D, 3rd best scorer in the series too, agressive and physical af

-He closed the series with 27/13/5 on 11/20 from the field, really clutch in the 4th

-He was the leader and best player of a team that had the 2nd worst record in the league before him (same team, then in 81 Cowens was gone and Parish in), and actually WON

-He didn't have a single teammate as good as Wade (around 2011), not even remotely close, shit he didn't even have an established player/teammate at the same level that Chris Bosh was (Maxwell and Parish were the closest and they never did what Bosh was doing in the late 00's, especially before they were playing alongside Larry).... Better yet, I should say he didn't (even) JOIN :lol

I'd have to watch it again.

Just going by stats though, a 3/11 performance killed 11 possessions and 8 of them ended with no points.

And I remember many 4/20 type performances...which means that that player ended 16 possessions for his team with no points, which is obviously worse.

Honestly, anything that lebron has ever done is meaningless. This guy just travels not stop. His stats, rings, everything mean nothing. Anyone can put up good numbers if they don't play the game according to the rules.

Michael Jordan pushed off, gambled on basketball, and killed his father. I allegedly deflated footballs even though the PSI differences weren't anywhere close to a point where they would provide an advantage. LeBron gets away with the odd travel the same way that every other player in the league does and sometimes stiff arms on drives. Kobe Bryant raped someone.

Jordan's legacy as the GOAT, my legacy as the GOAT, and Kobe/LeBron's legacy as top 10 all time players stay as is. Stop being such a hormonal bitch.

SouBeachTalents

I think people are focusing too much on the statistical output. Obviously, LeBron's is pathetic, and would be at the bottom of the barrel anyway. But it's the additional factors that really put it over the top

The stakes: A chance to go up 3-1 in the Finals with HCA in Games 6 & 7
Teammate performance: Wade & Bosh put up 56 points combined
Crunch time: ZERO points AND assists in the 4th quarter, took ONE shot, let the guy he was primarily guarding go off for 10 points in the 4th as well

Most amazing of all, even most of the minimal points he scored were fradulant

2 points on a goal tend
2 free throws from a shameless, embarrassing flop
2 points on a wide open dunk set up almost solely by Wade
2 points on a jumper over Terry

Factor in he was healthy and in the peak of his career, a stretch where he won 4 MVP's in 5 seasons, and I just don't see any argument for a game from a legitimate superstar or an all time great worse than this one
