Sad stuff (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2014/6/22/5832132/isaiah-austin-marfan-syndrome-nba-draft)

He was diagnosed with Marfan syndrome which affects connective tissues and can lead to aortic enlargement. Draft express had him going at #15.

Thoughts? Do we have anyone who goes to or used to go to Baylor?

No, but what bigger and better things will he move on to? Considering his dream was to be a professional basketball player in the NBA. Where few in America, heck on Earth can play. :confusedshrug:

He'll move on. But whether its on to bigger and better things? Remains to be seen.

NBA is his dream. So you're saying his dream is overrated, he'll do something that not even yourself even knows. Which will be bigger and better. :oldlol:

You take things so literal it's funny. You're probably one of those people who believe in order to be successful at life you have to be super serious all the time and looked pissed off.

I'm not one of those people. Strike 1. Get back in the batters box, lets see if you can make contact with your next reply.

Well let's get back on topic. You totally derailed the thread trying to debate stupid shit with me just because I feel he'll be fine and life will turn out better for him then playing in the NBA. You might feel differently and that's completely fine, just state the way you feel. Don't try to debunk my opinion with your bullshit.

You swung at the first pitch and popped out in foul territory. Now go **** off.

Didn't he leave school early though? He's gonna be missing out on that free education, which kind is kind of disadvantageous for him IMO.

The NBA wasn't going to work for him anyway. He is legally blind in his right eye and has been since middle school. He declared for the draft in 2013, but got injured and undeclared. Even if he made it to the NBA and got a contract, I only see him playing 5 years or under. There's better things out there for him, he went to school, hopefully he'll finish school. I love the determination to try to make it to the NBA going against the odds, but the odds beat him. Now it's about growth as a person and over-come this. I think he will and he'll be better for it.

Damn man, bad break. Doesn't the guy from Deerhunter have Marfan's? God I can't even imagine how heartbreaking it must be to be forced to retire right before you realize your dream.

Yep he did. Mr. Austin won't get a chance to even prove that unfortunately.

Very sad, I was looking forward to see him play and root for him.

Hopefully, he gets back to school...should be able to get a lot of merit scholarship $ with his story and continue his education. Perhaps he has a future in the Baylor basketball team in some role besides playing obviously.

Here's a heartbreaking interview with him about it: link (http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=11119441)

I feel so bad for the young man, but I hope he's on to great things.

Amazing. He played all those years in college but now its dangerous.

Like Randle having to have an surgery to which he said "**** no"

Or Salinger being forced to have back surgery.

The NBA season is 82 games long and the games themselves are longer. He'll also be playing against older, more experienced and better players so he'll have to exert himself even more to stay in the league.

The article in the OP says he may be able to join the coaching staff at Baylor, so at least he can still be involved in basketball.

So he's blind in one eye and has a heart defect that will cause him to give up his pro dream, but God did it so it's cool?

F*cking hell. Feel bad for the kid, he got shafted.
