The first line of the article is really stupid. The Spurs drafted Tim Duncan the universal number one pick to create their "dynasty". And still never won back to back, plus they no longer play like they did in 1999, 2003, or 2007.

The Hawks wont ever be the Spurs.

I love what Bud is doing and think he's great.

That being said, we've got a long way to go to become 'Spurs East'.

Also that article was pretty poorly written and the author seems like a huge homer.

1. Louis Williams and John Jenkins (both expirers) to the Knicks for Andrea Bargnani (expirer). Hawks get a big who can shoot the three (good against the Pacers). The Knicks get salary and luxury tax relief, while getting Williams (who can score) and Jenkins (who is a project).

2. The Hawks sign Shawn Livingston to a 2 years, $11 million deal. The Hawks get a guard who can run the point or play off the ball, and who has size to defend. This year we were way, way too small in the backcourt.

If your going to become the "Spurs of the East", you might want to draft the right guys of to start. Spurs had a superstar who was able to adapt his game over the course of 3 different decades.

Besides, what makes anybody think that Washington, Indiana, Chicago or Toronto become the "Spurs of the East" in the future ? Those 4 teams have just as much talent and structure to become the Spurs of the East as Atlanta does.

FTFY

Duncan is one of the greatest not only because of his ability to automatically put up double doubles (20/10) but also the fact he doesn't have glass knees ala Wade, Rose, etc.

Apparently his knees have been bone-on-bone for quite some time now. You just don't see him pouting about it.

He played on bum knees/ankles in 05/06 and he still won a Finals MVP and averaged 32 PPG in a Playoff series.

I said earlier in the season the Hawks have the potential to be Spurs-lite. A lot has to go right for them, but they're a good squad with a good coach. Didn't they have the second best record in the East until Horford went down.

no pun intended

The entire world saw how to properly construct a dynasty and maintain it when the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Miami Heat 4-1 in the NBA Finals. A franchise’s concept should naturally be to build through the draft and marginally buy to construct a fair and decent product.

I dunno really, since the Big 3 were formed, they've been to four finals and won two championships. Spurs won one championship and have been to two finals. Miami and SA split.

Plus the Spurs management is really really special, and I'm not sure we'll see anything like it for a long time. They know how to draft and Pop knows how to implement team ball. Can the Hawks emulate this? Well, for starters, they need to draft a Tim Duncan... And that's like 5% of the challenge.

The Hawks got Mike Budenholzer because of his Spurs background and being an assistant to Popvich.

Budenholzer spent 18 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, serving as a video coordinator for the first two seasons and then as an assistant coach under head coach Gregg Popovich.

Players have bought into the system too. They are clearly trying to use the Spurs model.

Hawkfan I'll never understand why you want the Hawks to get Bargnani. He is a truly horrible player.

One of the most important part of being "Spurs-like" in my opinion is consistency season after season. 1 season does not make you "Spurs of the East." That said, the Hawks are off to a great season.
