With a $2 billion sale of the Los Angeles Clippers hanging in the balance, a judge suggested Monday that the terms of a family trust are clear enough to remove Donald Sterling as a trustee and allow his estranged wife to sell the team without his consent.

At one point, Superior Court Judge Michael Levanas said the Sterlings' trust agreement is so unambiguous that "I could decide this case in five minutes."

At the center of the volatile court battle are reports from three doctors who examined the 80-year-old Sterling and found he shows symptoms of early Alzheimer's disease and dementia. His lawyers argued he should be able to call his own experts at a trial set for July 7.

Donald Sterling's lawyer has asked that the start of the trial that will decide whether to approve the $2 billion sale of the Los Angeles Clippers to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer be postponed so he can bring in a neurologist who will tell the judge Sterling is not mentally incapacitated.

Bobby Samini told ESPN.com as he left the courthouse Monday that he hoped the trial would be delayed until late July to accommodate the expert witness.

"The reason the doctor is important is he's probably one of the top in his field, and this is a pretty serious situation," Samini told ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne. "We'd like to make sure we have our expert of choice."

The NBA and the Los Angeles Clippers are ready to move on, even if Donald Sterling wants to keep fighting.

Move on to Steve Ballmer, who paid a record price for the team and is now a step closer to finally owning it.

The Clippers are a potential powerhouse team next season, with two All-Star players and one of the league's best coaches. The only thing that could've messed it up was ownership.

That no longer appears to be a concern after Monday's ruling in Los Angeles, where Superior Court Judge Michael Levanas sided with Sterling's estranged wife, Shelly Sterling, who negotiated the sale to Ballmer for a record-breaking $2 billion. Donald Sterling was trying to block the sale.
