LeBron James has decided to exercise the early termination option of his contract and become a free agent, the Miami Herald has confirmed.

James now has the option of restructuring his contract with the Heat, or signing with another team. Free agency begins on July 1. ESPN first reported the story.

With James choosing to opt out of his contract, Heat president Pat Riley and general manager Andy Elisburg can now begin in earnest the process of building the Heat

A source close to LeBron James confirmed Tuesday to the Sun Sentinel that the forward has informed the Heat he has opted out of the final two years on the free-agent contract he signed with the team in July 2010.

The source said agent Rich Paul has contacted the Heat with the formal decision to exercise the early-termination option on James' contract. James had two seasons left on his contract, at $20.6 million for 2014-15 and $22.1 million for 2015-16.

James had a June 30 deadline for his decision, as do teammates Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, who hold similar early-termination clauses in the contracts they, too, signed with the Heat in the 2010 offseason.

I foresee a sign and trade to Cleveland.
At least all the trolls will get off the Heat fans back.
