One potential scenario, I'm told, would send Smith to Kings for Jason Thompson and Derrick Williams. Jason Terry might be another option

No word deal is imminent (yet) but Sacramento's well-known fondness for Rajon Rondo would help explain Kings' interest in his buddy JSmoove

ESPNSteinLine Marc Stein
Immediate focus for Kings, though, is dealing No. 8 pick, which looks increasingly inevitable between now and Thursday's draft proceedings

Wow a lineup of

The Kings have nothing Boston would want after making the Smith deal and they have too much cap space committed after this season when Rondo hits free agency to sign him to the deal he'd want.

It would be the best lineup we have had in over 10 years.

Levity

that wouldnt be the line up. in order to get smith, theyd probably give up gay (det does it because they get out of smith's shitty contract, and get gay 1 yr for 19 mil.)

and to get rondo, its most likely the 8 + mclemore and dwill, but the question is would boston even want that. they may make SAC eat wallaces contract in return (but if they want to give SAC green, i dont think they say no)

so that would make the kings core: rondo, smith, and cousins. if smith can make his main focus defense, it might be pretty damn interesting.

And the Kings will screw up their cap situation for at least 3 years.
And still not make the playoffs.

Smith to NY for Felton and Smith makes sense because Jackson can coach him.

id hate to be the kings after that trade. they basically fck themselves over in cap space. That also guarantees IT would walk, or at least id imagine so.

I found the deal intriguing because they get out of Gays contract (though, its only 1 year), but instead, they take on an another 15+ mil contract. thats as perplexing as it gets.

The only way I see Danny giving up Rondo's Bird rights is if Sac takes on Gerald Wallace's contract along with it.

And again, Sac has nothing we'd want.

So... the Kings know only 1 ball is used right? And you actually need to get it in the hoop to score... right?

Theoretically this team COULD work if everything goes right, but that requires quite a bit.

I can see this team having the best record in the west for atleast the first half of the season and Smith, Gay, Cousins, and Rondo all being named the the all star game. If this trade does happen, Kings playoff basketball will finally return!

Pick 8 goes to Boston, and a future first round pick to Boston.

Rondo I like on this team. A team full of shooters needs someone to set the table. I have no clue why there is even rumors about anyone wanting to get Smith and his NBA worst contract. He plays a losing style of ball and he is not changing his stripes. He is one of the most inefficient players in the league.

Smith is actually a excellent fit next to Cousins (minus there IQ) if we could trade Gay to get Smith I'm all for it, if all three are on the same team probs never watch the Kings again.

There is zero chance we get both Rondo and Smith as well as keeping Cousins/Gay.

all qft. Just like the Derrick Williams trade, just like the Rudy Gay trade, trading for JSmooth, even if it helps land Rondo, is ****ing retarded.

I just don't understand D'Alessandro. Kings had a great off-season going in to 2013-14. Got Vasquez, Prince Luc, Carl Landry, McLemore...players that fit coach Malone's system and have synergy w/ team construction.

Since then? Trade team-players for defense-less chuckers. Not sure wtf is going on, but D'Alessandro is further proving he apparently does not know how to build a team.

But to play devil's advocate, new regime has said they want to make Sac a destination place in the NBA and to do that, apparently, need to trade for big names.

All of them combined don't play defence as good as Josh Smith (LRMAM clearly is playing on one knee) they are awful for the construction for a defensive minded coach. If we can swap Smith for Gay we should do it, we have been looking for a PF who can block shots and Smith is actually a decent passer.

I agree Jsmooth is good, better than Gay, and fits that criteria. Trade is still bad for the team. Dude is a chucker, and a bad one at that. Just what Cousins needs to play with.

After seeing the results of the Derrick Williams and Gay trades, I'll stick to my guns and think this trade is bad as well. Just another 30~35 win season.

If they land Rondo, then ~40 wins. No playoffs guaranteed.

Smith's chucking had a lot to do with the fact he had to play SF, with the Kings he's a PF. Rudy Gay/Isaiah Thomas are massive chuckers as well.

exactly! And look how well the Kings have done w/ them!

On offense, Kings need a picknroll PG, spot up shooters, and a low-post big. All of those are perfect complements to Cousins. Not iso chuckers.

They are chuckers who offer up little playmaking and zero defence but, why do we need a low post big for Cousins when he is the low post big? Moving Cousins away from the rim is awful for everyone other than the opposition.

06-24-2014, 11:22 PM
truthfully, smiths past chucking aside, hes a great fit next to cousins. hes a defensive savy big, who has pretty damn good lateral/foot speed, and blocks shots.

of course, he has that ugly ass contract, but if malone and company think they can have him buy into a defensive minded scheme, hes definitely worth a look. but again, you DO NOT want gay/smith/cousins line up. if for nothing else, that would cripple the salary cap (because theyd definitely extend gay if that was the case)

so trading gay for smith straight up, makes sense in my eyes. cousins, however, was a big proponent in getting gay to stay (or maybe the money was the main factor). point being, hes most likely going to be butthurt about a trade, but bringing in smith certainly has potential for improvement to the team.

another trade id be willing to explore if i were the kings. S/T thomas + #8 to NOR for Holiday. Holiday would be a better distributor for this team than both IT and CJ. would pelicans be willing? well, rumor has it theyre looking for a pick in the draft, but i really dont know if giving up holiday is an option for them.

if Cousins focuses on the low post, then you are right.

But he has a tendency to shoot midrange J's, and usually gets the ball at the high post. He can hit his J's, so if the O system is built around the picknroll/pop, and Cousins is doing the rolling/popping, then you'll need another big in the low post.

not necessarily, if cousins does indeed focus on pick and pops, then youd probably want a big that is good at cutting to the basket hard (cousins is a damn good passer, and great at finding the cutters). again, something Smith can excel in.

i guess its thomas +8 for rondo right ?

Rondo with a guy like cousins and a shooter like mclemore is a dream come true ... I also want williams to stay ... he would be like a jeff green kinda guy playing with rondo.
