Why mention Wilt in a discussion about Shaq and Lebron?

The only ones in history you can conceivably pick over Shaq (if you never find out how their careers would pan out) would be;

Wilt and Kareem. Wilt for his comparable physical stats (plus he's taller) or Kareem for his all around play/skyhook/3 NCAA wins.

You don't take Lebron out of high school over a potential dominant big.

It would probably be easier to keep LeBron. I mean he took a pay cut to go to Miami. Shaq followed the big bucks. Shaq seems to have chemistry issues where as as long as you can give LeBron a decent team to play with he would probably stick around and get along. Management wise LeBron would be the better pick. Pure impact would be Shaq.

it would be lebron, his hype was so much bigger than Shaq before entering the NBA. Let's be honest. Coming into the draft, Lebron would have probably gone #1 on every draft with all of the hype and success he had in college.

Who you prefer as a player is a different discussion. Both Shaq and Lebron were unproven NBA players before the draft.

Different era though, Bron was drafted in a time with much more "over-hypeness"... Imagine a player like Shaq out of college in this era, the amount of hype he would get
Oh, and LeBron never went to college.

yea I mean you gotta imagine that we're not taking Bron hype and comparing it to Shaq hype and then time traveling them to the same moment (or are we?) I assumed it was more if they had both gone through it together. So, Bron would get less hype if Shaq was there, too.

LeBron was amazing coming out, but Shaq was better. Shaq was a better rookie too. BRO.

Can't go wrong with either, but you go with Lebron.

Most hyped prospect ever, you get him at a younger age, and he was arguably the best hs player ever.

The guy was destroying teams like Oak Hill with his boys from elementary school.

It's tough because you are choosing between a Center with godly athleticism and a SF with godly athleticism. Both are going to be unstoppable.

Truth be told though, you would have been right by choosing Lebron. Barring some freak injury, he will ultimately go down as the better player.

Shaq was a monster in college. He was not just big but very athletic. Of all the players drafted #1 Shaq was the most sure thing. Lebron was #2 as far as being a sure thing but not everyone thought he'd dominate the way he did while no one was surprised at Shaq's domination.

Call me crazy, I watched his high school highlights and I wasn't really impressed. But he did destroy Oakmont Hills and made Trevor Ariza look like a scrub when in reality he turned out to be quite a good pro.

Lebron was hyped to all hell. ESPN started showing his games when he was 16, I believe. Let's not forget that Lebron had a crazy 90 million dollar Nike contract, before playing 1 game of NBA basketball.

But, Shaq > Lebron.

In retrospect, this probably led to a huge net gain for the Nike company. Good move by them.

Anyone find it absolutely amazing that Lebron lived up to the hype? Out of this world expectations, and he surpasses them... best player on the planet these past few years and its not even close...

how could you even put such an annointment on a guy in HIGH SCHOOL playing against other high schoolers?

That's only because of the hyped players that came before him. If Shaq was a part of this years draft, there would be a complete CIRCUS around him.

There are only 4 players who had GOAT potential and theyre the 4 highest peaks ever.

MJ, Shaq, Wilt and Bird.

MJ became it. Shaq got fat and didnt care. Wilt has the mind of a toddler, was a choker and low confident beta. Birds back and injuries fcked his career up.

I take Shaq and i dont think twice. Way better prime, peak, longevity and playoff performer.

Kareem by far was the most hyped player coming into the NBA, he had GOAT potential. MJ was the 3rd overall pick, nobody expected him to dominate the way he did, Bird was a very good prospect, but wasn't as hyped as Kareem or LeBron.
