Listening to Hinkie's press conference now. He said Embiid's surgeon said 5-8 months recovery time. Hinkie said that they will do what's best for the long term health of the player. Expect him to miss the year is what that means.
Also said Saric will be seen in no sooner than two years.

There is no doubt he'll miss the whole year in my mind. They'll start Noel most of the year and see how he develops and go from there. They'll put tank-mode in for the next year's draft class and bring Embiid along slowly.

A bit of a downer. It's a 2 year process, yes. Well, at least we get to see Noel now in the Summer league:applause:
BTW, did you like the Draft overall?

i'm happy he got a paycheck, but the dude will be battling injuries his whole career
it was one of those things where i was hoping he would get drafted in the top 5 just so he can support his family, but if I was a GM i wouldnt have drafted him

Loved it. And apparently there was never any deal in place for them to get to Wiggins. Embiid is is easily the best talent with the most upside. It's a risk you have to take. I think that Saric is great too. They get to develop Saric in europe for two years and they don't have to pay him then. So his rookie contract won't start for two years so they will get a more developed player at a serious discount. I loved the draft and love Hinkie. Getting the first round pick back from Orlando was awesome and picking up the second round pick. Loved the draft. They were going to suck this coming year either way so I'm totally ok with this.

The usual trolls on Philly.com are out with the usual impatience. Even Angelo Cataldi says he's confused.
I still believe in Hinkie. If Embiid is healthy, the Sixers could become really scary in 2 years. It's already a very tall lineup. I think Saric is 6'10 joining the twin towers and MCW.

Catalidi doesn't know anything about basketball. He's a moron. This draft was awesome. Hinkie was great in the press conference. Loved it.

I understand that everyone is a little anxious when they hear about injuries to the back and feet (especially with big men) but it strikes me that people aren't really reacting to the injury (not just here but everywhere). Every doctor that's been interviewed about Embiid's injury situation (both with the back and foot) have been relatively confused by the doom and gloom projection. Mainly because as long as you treat the stress fracture properly the likelihood of it becoming a recurring is very small. It's usually recurring when there are structural problems in the person's foot (this was the case with Walton). It was never a recurring problem with Ilgauskas and Yao had too many commitments to ever let the injury heal properly. But yeah, regardless of how long it takes Embiid to be healthy, there's zero chance of seeing him on the court this season in the exact same way Noel didn't get on the court despite being healthy around January (or so).

2 years of tanking.
Will they tank again next year?
Hinkie could either be a genius or the next David Kahn.

Genius. Look at the potential of a roster of Noel, Embiid, MCW, Saric, Young, and 30m in cap space.

God I hope so. I really love that dude's game. I just hope they do right by Embiid and that might mean letting him play at the end of the season if he is completely health. Let's not forget that he could really use real game experience.

Of course they're tanking next year, and they'll be tanking the year after that too. Embiid will not be very much developmental his first year. It's the most extended tank job I've ever seen, we'll see how it works out.

It's like they will have a top talent rookie for the next 3 years no matter what:
Noel this year
Embiid next
Saric the following
On top of that they will royally suck at least one more year so a top 5 pick can be expected in 2015. Given the above however, they don't have to fear a weak draft class, if they don't like what's coming, they will just trade the pick away.
Next couple of years will be tough for their fans but they are very likely going to be incredibly stacked byt 2017 :oldlol:

They won't be tanking the year after next. That will be their first year with Embiid (hopefully) and Noel and MCW and whoever they pick this coming year. They won't be in the ECF but the tank will def be over.

If Embiid can come back 100% healthy, he will be the best player from the draft. If not he will be a bust. There really isn't much middleground.

He's not David Kahn because Noel and Embiid aren't alike in anyway. Noel is long and wiry and really fast and athletic and can guard 4s no problem. He has very little offensive game but defensively he will be a great weak side shot blocker and can run the floor. Embiid has a real back to the basket game.
He's also not David Kahn because he has a real plan and is executing it. He is stock piling assets and making smart draft decisions that impact them positively. Do you think that David Kahn could turn Jrue Holiday into Nerlens Noel and the 10th pick in the draft? Also, could Kahn move down two slots and get Saric and their first round pick back and a second rounder? I seriously doubt it. For moving down two slots and getting the guy they wanted, the got a first round pick back and a second round pick. I listened to Brett Brown's interview today and he said that Saric was always their guy at 10. They wanted him and that they had Embiid rated the highest and when he fell to them they couldn't believe it. They totally vetted his health situation.
I don't care Embiid will sit a year. I do care we couldn't have got Nick Stauskus man. F*ck the kings why would they draft a SG when they have Ben Mc????
Probably should've traded back for Chicago two picks and took Saric and a shooter. Ah well.

It's ok, there's always next year and they could potentially unload Thad for a younger shooter this year. They also got very athletic. I loved this draft but I did want Stauskas. His suit was ugly as shit tho. God damn.

Yeah I'll stfu and get over it eventually. So you may see me cry some more within the next few days or so. :oldlol: His suit was ugly and he went on twitter and said thanks because I think espn voted his suit as good lookin. Cant remember, it was on this morning.
Did you see our Summer League roster? Added some guys that are worth a look. Craft and Kirkpatrick to name a few.

I just don't know about Embiid. I'm very leery about big men with consistent injuries. There is no denying his potential as a superstar, but very few teams had access (2) to his medical records and I would not have drafted him in the top 5 without seeing something to reassure me. Was philly one of those 2 teams? I think it was them and Cleveland?

Embiid will never be the same again. If there was a chance of a full recovery Cavs and Bucks would never pass on him.An Ilglauskas like career is the best case scenario for him.

Ha, I wish. But I'm just paraphrasing what several doctors (who have no association with the Sixers) were saying. It bugs me when people jump to conclusions without really looking into the nuances, especially when it's their job to be thorough in reporting (instead of just general unsubstantiated hyperbole). Embiid's situation is one that is worrisome and should be monitored but it's hardly reflective of how the rest of his career will play out, so long as everyone involved is attentive.

actually that's not true at all. The Bucks new owners said that they wanted someone who could come in right away and help them. With Embiid hurt, the person who fills that need the most is Parker. The Cavs also wanted a sure thing after the Bennett debacle and their recent history of draft picks, they took Wiggins. They also felt that they needed to get better defensively and athletically on the wing. There only choice was Wiggins. Although the Sixers liked Wiggins over Parker, and when Embiid was healthy it looked like Wiggins would fall to them, they have subsequently said that they had Embiid rated the highest all along. It's also being reported now that they never tried to make a deal to move up to the number one slot. Since the Sixers are not in win now mode, they felt that the possible reward of having a player this talented far outweighed the risk. If you listened to their press conference today, they seem please with the possibility that he will come back healthy. Of course you know more than them and you have scrutinized his medical records so I'll trust your opinion over theirs.

Yes I did see it. Noel and MCW as well. That should give a little insight into how those two will look together this year. I'm curious to see McDaniels play w MCW also.
Yes saw the Saric interview and I like what he had to say. I think I like the dude. He's not super fast but he is def a smart player and unselfish. He's tall and a super passer. That sure can come in handy.

Sixers are going no where.
MCW
Noel
Embiid
Saric
And other players like McDaniels, Grant, Moultrie.
Trade Thad away for a pick.
The problem with this all rookie model is that in 4-5 years time when the rookie become productive NBA players, they will all ask to get paid at the same time. This 76ers team is a mess and is essentially built to develop rookies for other teams down the line. They will never reap the benefits. Too many developmental players with no contention ANYWHERE IN SIGHT.

Honestly, if these guys tank again, they should just move the team or get rid of it. The league has too many teams as it is.
