Clinton family made $104.9 million from 2001-2013 from speaking fees alone.
To me money designated for use in campaigns has never been that big of a deal. Because politicians have limits on how the can use campaign donations.
Its the promised bribes in the future that really corrupts the system imo.

Besides doing stupid stuff like eric cantor spending close to $170,000 at steakhouses
Just in case you find this unbelievable
Cantor Spent $168,637 on Steak Houses, Brat Spent $122,793 on Entire Campaign
When Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor lost to his challenger David Brat last night, shock waves were sent across the political world. As Guy already noted, Brat was unheralded, underfunded and many people didn't know who he was until his huge victory last night. In total, Cantor spent $5 million on his campaign while Brat spent just $200,000. Cantor lost by eleven points.
But the stat of night comes from the New York Times, which shows Cantor's campaign spent as much money on steak houses as Brat spent on his entire campaign.
One measure of the extraordinary defeat could be seen in the candidate’s finances. Since the beginning of last year, Mr. Cantor’s campaign had spent about $168,637 at steakhouses compared with the $200,000 his challenger, David Brat, had spent on his entire campaign.
When you break down the numbers, Brat actually only spent $122,793 on his campaign, but raised $206,663.
they cant just pocket the cash.
we still have laws in the book preventing them from just pocketing the cash.
Taking future jobs as board members, lobbyists, speech makers, etc. is how they can actually pocket the money.
Also the hiring of wife and kids.
Eg. After the mandate to buy health insurance, Sasha and Malia would probably have an easy time getting a job at a health insurance company.

looking back through history, the wealthy have always had tremendous influence. this is a trend that has gone on for thousands of years. public financing of campaigns would help, but ultimately it wont really change things.
